As other reviewers have noted, this guesthouse is perfectly situated about two blocks from the cute little area of Melville. 7th Street has many restaurants and bars, and we (2 women) felt safe walking (even though it was very dark...not many streetlights). I have limited mobility, and was pleased that, to get to the main area of Melville, you just have to walk a couple blocks up a slight incline.
As for the guesthouse, Margaret (the owner) was FABULOUS in communicating with me prior to our stay. I was thus a little disappointed when a man who didn't introduce himself and didn't seem pleased that we were there greeted us upon arrival. We had to ring the bell outside the gate several times before being let in.
Note for disabled travelers: The rooms are all up about 5 stairs with no railing.
Our room was GREAT. The comforter was fluffy and thick, everything smelled very clean, the shower was hot, our little private patio was very charming, and the room was quite spacious (by American standards).
We were a bit disappointed by breakfast, and had felt rushed into making our choices the night before as the previously mentioned worker stood over us as we made our choices. My quiche was good, but my companion didn't receive her requested fruit, and we had to make our own coffee in the room. The coffee-making turned into a real fiasco because we didn't know how to work the coffee maker (it was unlike one I've ever seen---not that I have a problem with other countries using different appliances, but I think if they're not going to make the coffee, they could post instructions!). The coffee pot overflowed and needless to say what remained in the pot sucked.
Overall, I was happy with the location and the room. I would return to Cloud's End because it felt very safe and clean.
