“My 50th Birthday Adventure! :-)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

My stay at The Winston Hotel was fantastic! My room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi available in the room and transfer service is available to & from the airport for a fee. I felt safe as a solo female traveler. Food at the restaurant was good with free breakfast included. The staff was absolutely fabulous, very attentive and friendly, Frances, Natasha, Timothy..everyone really! Close to Sandton and about 25 minutes from Soweto and the Apartheid museum. I would highly recommend and would stay again at the Winston Hotel.

What a fantastic hotel!  We loved everything about this place. The room was spacious and very well appointed...the bathroom might have been our favorite part of the room. Our favorite part of the stay, though, was the staff. They were beyond amazing and helped us with all of our questions and gave some great recommendations. They were always ready to help and were incredibly friendly. The hotel is also near the Gautrain and Rosebank mall. If you are going to Johannesburg, stay at this hotel.

After a few days in Pretoria in a mock-Tuscan hotel just off a busy highway, arriving at The Winston was like manna from heaven. I didn't want to leave.
The reception and security staff were all friendly, helpful and obliging, the restaurant/room-service staff, likewise. The attention to detail in the kitchen and dining-room needs work (ahem, Management), however. I loved the beautiful gardens and the quietness, despite the close proximity to busy Oxford and Glenhove roads. The location of the workspace and the wifi strength were both perfect. My bed was so comfortable and I felt like a movie star in the mirrored bathroom.
So, now can you see why didn't want to leave?

Stayed at the winston hotel for a long weekend. I found the service to be attentive and hands on. The breakfast was most certainly a highlight. Rooms were luxurious and spacious and I greatly enjoyed the pampering amenities. Thank you to the staff and general manager! Will be back

If you like your hotel with a bit of colonial splendour and the subservience that goes with it.... then this is the place for you. The rooms are great and the hotel feels clean and well run but there is something missing. Whilst the staff are very subservient - almost distastefully so - they aren't terribly good. The food and the service in the restaurant was pretty poor and customer service a little lacking. For example: I booked a taxi for 0800. When it didn't arrive the receptionist informed me it was held up in traffic and there was nothing she could do.

The hotel is located in a leafy Jo'burg suburb and pretty isolated - so walking downtown is not an option. On the upside there is a shopping centre nearby with one or two good restaurants and the Gautrain (Rosebank) about half a mile away which is handy for getting to and from the airport and makes for relatively easy access to Pretoria and Jo'burg.

This hotel was convenient for me as it is quite near the office I was visiting. Am not sure if I would make a return visit....

A nice quiet spot that's an easy train trip from the airport. The rooms are large and nicely decorated, the area is quiet and the pool looked inviting. Breakfast was a highlight. We couldn't have asked for a better place to start our trip .

A lovely hotel. Very beautiful, great rooms....
Staff well as an example we ordered 2 breakfasts and ended up with 3 and we were the only people in the dining room and it took 40 mins to arrive.

The taxi company they use is not that great. The shower did not get hot water.
So all in all great hotel but needs to tighten up on their staff.

Dear Jonnysh

Thank you for taking the time to give us you valued feedback on your stay at the Winston Hotel on the 19th October 2013.

We always strive to provide the heights level of service to al our guests and it is always sad to hear when we did not meet the expectations of our guests. We constantly review our CCTV recordings throughout the hotel and make use of it to train our staff, after reviewing the footage with regards to your comments on the breakfast service we found that from the time the order was taken to the time that the meal was served 19 min passed. I have also noticed that the waiter did make a mistake and served 3 breakfasts to your table of two. We have done an intensive training session with our waiter after this incident and will continue to train and refresh the staff’s minds on service levels.

I have taken your comments with regards to the Taxi Company also under review and we have got a company that will use the new C Class and the new Chrysler to transfer our guests to and from the Airport.

I would also like to apologize for the hot water situation as there was a problem that we found with one of the boilers and this has been rectified.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Winston the next time you visit South Africa

Kind Regards
