“Lovely outdoor venue”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

The seating is shaded with large trees and a good view. Perfect for the wonderful summer weather we have been experiencing. The potato wedges are very good and should be ordered just for a treat. Wine list is average with lots of unknown wineries. We were there yesterday and had a very large table with at least 12 people and the waiter looked after drink orders well. Once food was ordered, this came out in stages, which is not great as everyone would ideally like to eat together. The peri peri chicken is average as it is flame grilled which leads to burnt bits of chicken and without the sauce, would not be the greatest. The one big aesthetic negative was the large tins used as ice buckets, not good-looking and very utilitarian. Far more suitable if I was camping for the weekend.
A nice venue for sitting outside and able to accommodate large or small groups of people.

“Quite a disappointing evening at 33 High Street”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Booked a table for a small birthday get together. On arrival the table was dirty with no effort to cleanup , at least the table had a reserved sign . Starters was average and took quite a while . The main meals took very long and then one order , a "bubble bread" was served while the rest of us waited an hour after that before we received our meals . I specifically ordered a very hot piri piri chicken and received a seriously well done chicken with not much flavor at all. I then asked for hot chili sauce and then received green chili's with no taste and smell , normally this is a indication of chili that went bad . At this stage I decided that my chicken will go to the doggy ! Wife had lamb chops , nothing to get excited about but it was at least edible. Kids had calamari , not bad but also nothing special. We decided to skip anything else and ended off with some cappuccino's , I never thought that you can stuff up a cappuccino , but this restaurant managed to prove me wrong.

Will we go there again , probably never , waiters seems to do their own thing and is not around when needed. This place looks so good from the outside but on the inside it is quite dead. It seems the "bubble bread" is good . Not worth the time and money to visit this restaurant in my opinion.

“Not a bad Sunday Lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013 via mobile

We had an average experience at 33 High Street on the second Sunday of the summer. Although the food was not too bad the service was really quite poor. Granted we were stuck away at the furthest part of the restaurant garden area it appeared that the service did not reach as far. We actually needed to go and retrieve a waitress before we were served. The newly established brewery is very good and the Indian Pale Ale that I had was really very good.

“Best Piri Piri Chicken in Joburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Over the past year we have made at least 10 trips to Modderfontein to tuck into only one thing - Piri Piri Chicken with wedges. We've often said we will try something else the next time we go, but the lure of the chicken wins every time. We have introduced many friends to this hide-away and they too have become committed fans of the frango (chicken). Without a doubt one of the most sublime chicken eating experiences you could ever dream of. And their Greek salad isn't too shabby either. There's no better way to spend a Sunday, than sitting under the large Oak tree in the garden and enjoying a truly magnificent meal.

“Great Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Great local restaurant with excellent food. The tables are well set out so you do not feel crowded and big outdoor area (although a bit cold in winter). Definitely a place worth visiting frequently.
