“Day Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

a really good way to spend an afternoon, entrance fee was reasonable, a good selection of exhibits, a nice cafeteria and an on site military curio shop that was very very good

“Telescopes and war machines”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We go here every year for the scopex event. Good fun and the kids enjoy it. Freezing at night though but on clear nights seeing the stars surrounded by war machines gives you a sense of profound humility. Limited meals can be bought during the day. Great day trip combined with the zoo, but difficult to see everything if it is your first time doing this. Definitely one of my top places to go to.

“South Africa Fantastic!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Visited South Africa in 2010 but what a fantastic country to visit. Hotels were all great, lovely people. Gorgeous beaches. Great restaurants. Plenty of good interesting places to visit. Can still enjoy the memories of it. If anyone gets the chance to go - go! You will not be disappointed, lots of wines to taste. The Ostrich bird farm is fun, enjoy a ride on an ostrich, we still laugh even now.

“Great museum with a vast range of exhibits”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

If you enjoy military museums then this should not disappoint. There is a excellent range of aircraft, tanks and fighting vehicles with plenty of information available. The ME262 Night Version was particularly good to see given it is the only one in the world and you can get very close to almost everything which adds to the experience. The open air display is extremely well laid out and a nice contrast to the halls. Outside the main entrance is the huge memorial gate to all those who died in the Second Boer War.
If you want to take it all in you need to have at least half a day. There is a cafe and shop but I didn't have time to test them out.

“National Museum of Military History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

During International Museum Week I decided to visit the National Museum of Military History. There is a variety of aircraft, armoured fighting vehicles and guns on display. I was fortunate to see a Messerschmitt Me 262 (Two-seater night fighter version).

I found the museum to be very informative and was proud to see that our South African Heritage is being preserved. Worth a browse is the souvenir shop and refreshments are available at the cafe.

I recommend you wear something warm, as the display halls are a bit chilly, or it might be the atmosphere created by the memorabilia.

Something that definitely drew my attention was Sir Winston Churchill's quote on the wall- "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."

Support our museums!

Kind regards
L
