“Great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

This hotel is a great place to be stationed. It is literally right off the GauTrain so it is easy to the airport or to great shopping and restaurants in Santon. Further, it is located in a great shopping area so you don't even have to leave the area. The spa was good as was the internet and fitness facility. There are some renovations taking place and the lobby can be loud but it didn't bother me much.

Room Tip: The lobby construction starts before 8AM 7 days per week so if you want to sleep in I would recommen...

The Hyatt Regency in Johannesburg is connected to a local shopping center in Rosebank and you can reach the property easily by subway/train from the airport (40 minutes) or the city center.
I stayed at the Hyatt for one night on an overnight stay in Johannesburg.
Several restaurants, entertainment and shops are in the shopping center.
The hotel is a modern high rise building. When I arrived Hyatt could not find my reservation. Only after I spent an hour at the front desk and showed my email confirmation from the Hyatt website the front desk agent called reservation and they found my booking.
The rooms were modern and well equipped. The internet connection was restricted to a low bandwith and SKYPE calls or movies were out of the question.
The breakfast at the regency launch was ok, I also had evening snacks - and no complaints.
The hotel underwent construction in the lobby area. I did not hear anything in the room, but it was uncomfortable to walk through the lobby. The hotel did not post this construction project on their hyatt.com website.

The fitness area was nice, but I was unable to figure out how to turn on the jacuzzi. The sauna was just warm and and no maintenance was available. The water in the outdoor swimming-pool was cold.

I wasn't overall impressed with the hotel, but it was ok for one night

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg during a trip to Johannesburg for medical reasons. We stayed on the Regency Club floor in a corner King-size bed room. The room and bathroom were spacious and the decor was refined and understated. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the room as well as lots of wardrobe space were a plus. Despite maintenance on the property during our stay, we slept restfully and were not disturbed. The complimentary continental breakfast, canapes, Nespresso coffee and drinks in the private Regency Club lounge were like an extension to our room with high-quality periodicals, international newspapers, as well as news on a flat-screen tv. We did not eat in the hotel's restaurant, Ndau, so I cannot comment on that - however, the afternoon tea served in the lobby/lounge area is well worth the time. The hotel is directly connected to The Firs shopping center which boasts a number of good restaurants and shops. You can also reach the Rosebank mall just a few steps away. For those hiring a car, there is adequate and secure underground parking and if not, the Rosebank Gautrain station is a few hundred meters away. I would happily stay at this property again.

Room Tip: Stay on the Regency Club floor to enjoy the private lounge and ask for a corner room.

We stayed in this hotel for one night and the very beginning of our stay was a living night-mare. The receptionist named 'Ntokozo' was rude behind measure. She treated us with indifference and discrimination. We booked this hotel well ahead of time with a travel agency. But, when we came to the hotel they said they didn't get the money for the 5 rooms we reserved. We immediately called our travel agent and she said she has made the payments and then the Hyatt staff claimed that maybe the systems have not updated. So, we offered to pay the whole amount in US dollars but we told the receptionist to return the money to us if they get the payment by morning. But, she said she can only return the money in South African dollars if we go to the rooms. Since we were leaving next day we had no use for SA dollars. She listened to no reason and kept us waiting for 2 hours. Then we payed for one room disregarding the money cause we were all tired and we had a early morning flight. When the children were settled down to the room we went to the reception to ask for our other four rooms. She was extremely rude. told us to check out and also said she will not give a refund to the room we took for 2hours. The time was 11.30 in the night when she asked us to get out of the hotel. Luckily for us with the shift change a manager appeared and told us he will give us our rooms keep our money till the system updates with our travel agents payments. Finally, by half past midnight we got a room. It was a very tiring and frustrating experience. Also, we have been to Hyatt hotels all over the world and this kind of service is not characteristic of this hotel chain.
However, I rated this hotel a average because the rooms were very good. nicely decorated and clean. Also, the GM talked to us during the morning. But, the initial cruel experience that kept us waiting for 5 hours to get rooms was really painful. This hotel has the potential to be excellent but with staff members like 'Ntokozo' this hotel will only lose guests cause next time we come to Johannesburg we wil not stay in the hotel if such staff exists.

I just stayed for one night here, but this was a positive experience all through. Had the club room, which is quite spacy, including the bathroom. The roomy, high water volume shower was particularly enjoyable after a 16-hour flight. Everything was clean and working without any problems. Included also was a small supper, with some hot snacks, sides, canapés, cakes and wine. I had not too much interaction with the staff, but the services I did request were received friendly and delivered promptly.
Somewhere you will find that HR Johburg offers shuttle service from the airport. That is not entirely true as they teamed up with a private taxi service, which will only be there if you make particular reservations for your arrival.

Room Tip: Upgrade to club level if you can

Stayed here for a mini-congress. In process of renovations but did not even notice it. Breakfast was average but more than adequate. Used the gym= good. The pool was suppose to be heated but was ice cold.Being attached to a mall is a big plus as there are many eating places including fast food places.

We stayed for the night on the club floor and it was an underwhelming experience. My experience with Hyatt has largely been in UK where they are several steps ahead of this hotel. Had I known (or been told)) the hotel was in the midst of a refurbishment programme I would have stayed elsewhere. No restaurant worth the name on-site at present. What they have barely qualifies as a café Check in on Club floor not available. Nor for check out. They offered to book us into the adjacent Grill House (it was a Saturday evening) but then when they were told it was full failed to tell us. Consequent embarrassment all round when we arrived for dinner only to be turned away. No flower in vase in bathroom - water, but no flower. Why would a 5-star hotel put only one bathrobe in a double room? Pretty unimpressed overall. I hope for their sake they are better during the working week.
