“A Grand Hotel in Joburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

What a find, This hotel is outstanding with stunning views over Joburg Zoo and the greenness of the trees - you would not know you were in a city centre. Every member of staff somehow knows your name! Every member of staff is so friendly and helpful. The hotel room was beautiful and the bathroom was enormous!! The shuttle buses and golf buggies up and down the hill were most welcome!! We loved the pop-up tv - quite novel- with good choices of channels (according to my husband!).

We booked on arrival La Belle Terrasse but were seated in La Loggia adjacent as the restaurant was full but the standard of service was excellent - we never felt overlooked by the staff. The food was wonderful and the wine list was absolutely great. The Polo Bar was lovely, overlooking the horizon pool. A great place for a sundowner - you can reserve tables here.

The hotel was also very efficient at arranging shuttle buses to major attractions in the city, with agreed return pick-up times.

All in all a fabulous stay.

Room Tip: Try to book a room on at least the third floor for the view

We spent one night at the Westcliff on our way to Botswana, and after a long flight and drive through the city, the hotel was an oasis of calm and loveliness. Our room was spacious with a lovely balcony and view, within a few steps of the plunge pool and easy walking to the restaurant. The bathroom was spacious with many amenities. The only criticism, and it is truly minor, is that the floor in the shower does not have sufficient slant to keep the water from seeping under the shower door to the bath mat. The hotel had enought snacks waiting for us that we could have filled up on them rather than dinner!
The restaurant's dinner service was on the slow side and the food was fine, though not outstanding, but everyone was welcoming and gracious. The breakfast buffet, however, was outstanding.

Room Tip: Choose a room higher up, close to restaurant for quiet and views.

We had a lunch outing to the Westcliff which has the most beautiful view over the leafy Johannesburg suburbs. The view is truly beautiful, with a surprising variety of birds flitting around the Johannesburg trees. The service was also good but that is where the good things ended. We travelled a long way to have a very mediocre lunch and it is sad to see, from the patio, that the hotel has a cracked and faded exterior, badly in need of TLC and a lick of paint! We won't be in a hurry to repeat the experience

Room Tip: Only had lunch there

We loved this hotel. It is unique in design, flowing down a hillside with wonderful views. Our room. (401) had a great view and a lovely terrace. The breakfast is great, as is room service. Service generally was excellent. For breakfast, try to get a table outside or in the room to the right for the best views.

Room Tip: We loved 401.

Every visitor to Jozi must see the Westcliff , the view of the city , and even the zoo below , never fails to impress. The polo lounge has the best locale in the city but the service is often slow and you must be prepared for this. High tea is exceptional and the choices endless , we took colleagues from the UK and South America there for lunch and they were blown away by the view and the ambience.

A really great Hotel!
The catch point is the automated TV mounting at the base of the bed which to the unknown boarder is quite a phenomenon. The TV emanates from a wooden box by the press of a switch beside the bed!
The Hotel operates shuttle services within and without the hotel which ferries clients from one point to another in this hillside phenomenon.!

Room Tip: Choose a room in block 9, here the rooms are spacious and closer to most amenities especially the sw...

The Westcliff is "The place to stay" in Johannesburg. Pool area and restaurants are very good, service at its best. The size of the room, bathroom is more than sufficient and bed was very comfortable.
Proximity to various places is nice and the hotel offers shuttle service to shopping malls nearby.
Comparing to other Hotels i would always choose The Westcliff.
