“Hectic, too much touting, but central for tourists”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Don’t have time to do the real thing somewhere in South Africa?? Then climb on the Gautrain and get your fix of African curios. As a regular local visitor to the whole area (I live and work nearby), I find the place crowded, too many of the same thing, very little originality, and far too much touting and pushy behaviour. My family from the UK have thoroughly enjoyed the market and found items that they will keep for a lifetime. I have popped in every now and again for some items, but prefer to stay away. The roof top market is my preference - also has curios and bargains, and far more variety of items to browse and buy (not just curios), with some delectable food stalls (pick up a cheese or 10, try some Indian delights, or even a decadent pastry/cake).
Note: those staying in the Rosebank vicinity have a 3 minute walk. 5 mins walk or less from the Gautrain. Plenty of parking above and underground. Many other shops in the area - enjoy the "street" and "cafe" feel of the area.

“Rosebank”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

The Rosebank Mall is a three min ride from hotel. Got some good deals. If you are into African carvings there is an African Craft shop outside the new Rosbank Mall

“Weekend Flea Market”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This is basically a weekend flea market. They sell food, jewellery, paintings, clothes, bags, lamps, souvenirs, African and non-African musical instruments etc. You can bargain for items that you're purchasing.

Worth checking out if you're in the Rosebank area on weekends from about 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

“a fine place to buy african crafts”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

These places can be fun, and this is a bit more regulated than some African craft markets, although it's hard to tell whether you get a better or worse deal on stuff. Since the market is small, it's very possible the vendors are fixing their prices. If you get overwhelmed you can wander upstairs where prices are marked on all products.
