Having lunch outside under the trees certainly made a nice change, but was actually chilly on a winter's day, despite the blankets provided. Probably summer would be a better time to go. We were also attracted to this venue because of the live music, but didn't realize that this enjoyment would be tempered by having to pay an extra R30 per person, on top of a relatively expensive food bill.
The food is, at best, very ordinary. The fish of the day was hard and overcooked, the lamb chops, for which a steak knife had to be requested, were okay, as was the butternut "bredie" on which they were served and the burgers, ordered medium, were both well done, but edible. I watched other dishes being served to patrons and nothing seemed particularly interesting or different.
Although I am a great fan of the 44 Stanley venue as a whole, I will definitely not be going back to Il Giardino.
