“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

I have stayed at Avondhu several times in recent years, and always found the service to be excellent, the rooms to be very comfortable and the owners to go out of their way to be of assistance. I would highly recommend anyone staying there, whether for business or pleasure or both.

Room Tip: In my experience, all the rooms are comfortable.

“A lovely welcoming guesthouse.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We have been lucky enough to stay in the Avondhu guesthouse twice and the second visit felt like we were going home. Dea is so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.
It was wonderful to have the facilities of the tennis court and especially the pool at our disposal. We enjoyed two hot afternoons in the pool.
The breakfasts were delicious. If one is feeling virtuous the healthy fruit and yoghurt breakfast is certainly not a hardship. I couldn't get over the variety and flavours of the fruits every morning. On the days you feel like a full breakfast, Dea knocks up a pretty great one too.
The chalet we stayed in was very comfortable with a bedroom, ensuite bathroom and living room. There was a small kitchen that was perfectly adequate for our needs. One night, we were just too tired to venture out and Dea organised a pizza from a local takeaway that was very tasty. It was great to have this option.
We felt very safe in this area and on several occasions walked up to the local shopping center about 15 minutes away. This shopping center has a great local market which we really enjoyed and was great for picking up good quality locally produced presents for friends and family back home.
Dea and Paddy are wonderful hosts and made us feel completely at home. We will return.

“Delightful Avondhu Guesthouse in leafy suburb of Saxonwold”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

The warmth and hospitality of Dea and Paddy Slattery creates a really inviting atmosphere in their high standard guesthouse was . Avondhu has everything to recommend it, very cleverly designed and appointed to cater for solo guests, couples, families and business visitors. The standard of accommodation is excellent, beautiful rooms, plus a suite of private cottages offering self-catering facilities. The bed is deeply relaxing with pristine very high quality bed linen. breakfasts are delicious with great variety of food on offer. Apart from this, it has to be the personal attention of Dea and Paddy that makes a stay here so very special and creates that strong desire to come back again.I can certainly recommend this Guesthouse to any visitor to Johannesburg.Dea and Paddy give so much information and help to their guests that they positively spoil their guests and remove some of the stress associated with travel in another country. The swimming pool, delightful garden and tennis court all contribute to a completely relaxing and very enjoyable experience, The location is very central in Rosebank which is very leafy , green and good for shopping and restaurants.Very highly recommended and definitely worth a visit.

“A lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

This B&B is in a perfect location in a lovely suburb of Johannesburg, especially lovely when the Jacaranda are in bloom! A warm welcome awaits you at Avondhu with comfortable accommodation and very good facilities with a sumptious breakfast! It is within easy reach of the Rosebank shops, and as a woman on my own I felt perfectly safe walking to the mall. I have stayed here several times now on my visits from England and would highly recommend this B&B as a perfect place to stay.

“Home from Home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

I have stayed at Avondhu every year for the past 4 years on my annual trip to Joburg- and will certainly continue to stay there.
I can highly recommend Avondhu - good value for money, very conveniently situated to Rosebank shops, quiet, great breakfasts, always clean, kitchenette very useful, privacy as all rooms have their own entrance, and lastly Dea and Paddy are very friendly and extremely helpful. I will be back!
