Tranquility & Friendly approach where you can get without hesitation, besides, you can have a wonderful friendly breakfast with sincere people and interesting conversation.... I duly recommend to stay there if you visit Johannesburg, where I have been stayed there when I am in Joburg.

We stayed at the Lucky Bean guest house on our last 2 nights in South Africa in August 2012- we were recommended by a friend. It was lovely- our room, the owners and staff, the ethos and Melville itself. We enjoyed the bohemian vibe of Melville and also dined out at the Lucky Bean restaurant, which was delicious, a little bit fancy and very affordable (especially considering the Australian exchange rate). We were all done with late nights by this stage of our trip, but Melville does have a real night life- soo many bars. The guesthouse is only about 300m away from the main street, and we did walk around at night without incident, which feels very nice, when you are in Jo-burg. Conway organised us a tour to Soweto and the Apartheid museum, which we really enjoyed, and also organised airport transfers for us etc.

We stayed here on the night after our arrival and before our departure from South Africa and we were very happy with our choice both times.

The guesthouse is located in Melville, a quiet upscale neighborhood. 7th Street with lots of bars and restaurants is nearby and it is safe to walk there, also at night. We can highly recommend the lucky bean restaurant as well.

The rooms are a bit small but comfortable enough. We loved the breakfast which is served in the kitchen giving the place a true B&B feeling.

I stayed at the Lucky Bean for seven nights at the end of March 2012. It was a great stay! The facilities are impeccable. I stayed in the Koi Room which looks out onto a lovely koi pond. A great place to do my daily morning meditations. The room itself was a treat. The bed is made daily, and the facilities are modern and very comfortable. By far the best feature of the Lucky Bean is the staff. the owners, Natasha and Conway are gracious, friendly and helpful hosts. I had an issue accessing the internet and Conway called his personal IT person who stayed on the phone with me until it was fixed! So kind and generous. Pretty and the rest of the staff were also lovely, warm and caring, offering their concern for me when I was not well. The Lucky Bean is a great place to stay! It is also very close to 7th Street in Melville, a hip and happening section of town. Highly recommend folks staying there!

In January we were lucky enough to stay at Lucky Bean in, Johannesburg.

From the moment we first made enquiries until our departure, Conway was the perfect host dealing with our enquiries in a proessional and courteous manner.

Conway also runs the Lucky Bean Restaurant, which offers great bistro type food with a wonderful list of South African wines.

We stayed with a group of 16 architects and planners during an excursion through Southern Africa at this marvellous guesthouse. Reception by the owners was most warm and helpful. Tastefully decorated, quiet and spacious rooms with all necessary facilities (WiFi, Satellite TV, desk), beautiful green garden with small but pleasant swimmingpool, great breakfast. Restaurants at 7th street nearby, short drive to CBD and Wits University. Highly recommendable for both business and private stay in Joburg.

Our family stayed at the Lucky Bean Guesthouse recently and found it the perfect place for a family traveling to Joburg. Tucked into the wonderful Melville neighborhood, just a few blocks from the shopping and dining on 7th Street, The Lucky Bean Guesthouse was beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming. The rooms are large with excellent bedding, large showers, sitting areas, work desks and free wifi. My husband and I had one room and our three kids shared another. With excellent security and a lovely garden we felt comfortable allowing the kids to play in the pool and on the lawn with minimal supervision.

The owners and their staff are friendly and professional. Breakfast started the day with fresh fruit and squeezed juices, coffee, tea, yogurt and granola and eggs cooked any way you requested. Conway was always there in the morning to assist with tour planning, making dinner reservations or contacting a driver. We had a rental car for part of our stay and cars are parked inside the walls of the property. (Do beware that the driveway is narrow and a bit steep).

We met lovely guests, including yoga instructors, an architect and an artist. All from different countries. The kitchen is open at all times with access to a fridge to store your own food or to prepare snacks.

We found the price to be a great value and our kids hugged everyone when we left as they had treated us like family.

I had been concerned about booking just the right experience for a Soweto tour and Conway arranged a walking tour for just the five of us. His recommendation for a driver was also spot on as Derrick helped us out on our last day while staying at an airport hotel by driving us to and from the Apartheid Museum while telling us about his life pre and post apartheid.

The one downside is that the place is so lovely that you might find it hard to get out and see the city! And if you stay there a dinner at The Lucky Bean restaurant should not be missed!

Room Tip: Rooms around the back may provide more seclusion but we loved having our doors open onto a patio rig...
