I was looking for a quiet, comfortable, yet accessible place for a party of 14 students and 2 faculty members to stay for six nights while on a short study abroad trip to Johannesburg. 5th Avenue Gooseberry Guest House turned out to be a perfect location. The guest house was spacious and clean, with a nicely decorated premise and a decent sized swimming pool. The rooms were uniquely furnished and decorated and there was beautiful artwork in the lobby and other common areas. The owner, Susan Berry, and her staff very friendly and willing to accommodate our unique needs. We needed to leave at 6 am for a day long trip and the staff was gracious to wake up early to prepare breakfast for our group. Also, on our final day, we wanted to have a group cookout dinner. Susan and her staff helped with the preparation and cooking of the dinner and even provided the desserts. A great and much appreciated gesture! Although the guest house is located in a quiet, residential area, it is about a 10 -15 minute walk to a convenient shopping area and about 5- 10 minute taxi ride to a larger shopping mall.
Thanks,
