“Nice hotel and good price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2009

Stayed for a week on business and was pleasently suprised. Rooms were good, quiet and of a high standard. Breakfast buffet had a vast selection and service was good.

The hotel bar is popular and very busy Friday and Saturday. Restaurant had a good selection and not at all overpriced like some in other hotels i have stayed in.

Not too far from Sandton which is a great place for shopping and entertainment.

Only downside was that staff need to take a little more care in what they are doing.

The meals in the Hotel reastaurant could be quite expensive...insted I would suggest to try 'Spur' - a restraunt with offering delicious steaks the Afrikan way. (but no beer served in the restaurant)

I was visiting J'berg on business and wanted to stay in an accessible and safe location and this was the perfect area and hotel.

Rooms were hugely comfortable and cosy. The spa was a real delight as well and so refreshing.

The breakfast area provided a good choice of food and very tasty too.
Finally the bar and reception area (as pictured) were very trendy and cool. A great place to hang in the evening for a drink with colleagues.

My only criticism is that it's not in the heart of the city or bustling area, so you need to get a cab anywhere out of there.

I recently stayed at this hotel with my husband and adult daughter. We booked it because my husband had stayed there a couple of times on business although that was a few years ago. Since tghen there has been total change and it is now part of the Crowme Plaza group. We organised a pick up from the airport which was added to our final bill, about 465 rand I think. The first problem we had was at check in. The lobby is spacious albeit a bit garish in my opinion and the front desk was in fact 4 (or 5) separate desks with no signs. First we were allocated rooms on the 4th and 6th floors of the North tower. My husband and I took the 4th floor room, on getting out of the lift the first thing we noticed was a door off its hinges, it looked to us like it has been broken in to. We decided we wanted my daughter nearer to us and they offered the room next door. When we looked the room was a complete mess and obviously hadn't been cleaned despite the front desk insisting that according to their computer it had been. She ended up in a room arond the corner where we observed 2 more rooms with there doors off. We were obviously concerned about this but when we enquired at the front desk they did not know anything about it. The rooms themselves were fairly well furnished except there was minimal storage and no drawers at all. The rooms were small especially the bathroom which had a door stop which we both stubbed our toes on regularly. Housekeeping was vaiable, one day we got back to find our carpet was wet. Our deal included breakfast which, on the first morning was fine with lots of selection and cooked to order eggs. However they brought a bill and insisted that it was signed although we were assured that it would not be added to our bill as it was just to add gratuity . On the second morning we were turned away from the breakfast area as it had been prebooked and ended up in a make shift set-up in a conference room which was definitely not to the same standard. When this happened on the 3rd morning (this time at 7am) we stood our ground insisting that we were allowed to use the normal breakfast room. All the time we were in there it was never more than half full. All tranport had to be arranged through the one company which had an anonymous desk in the lobby, no brochures and we had to ask for a list of trips which did not contain any details. one day we asked to book a taxi to and from the Zoo and we were given a phone number to ring for the return cab. Needless to say it took 3 calls and over an hour of waiting before it turned up. We were getting very nervous as the Zoo was about to close. When my husband complained all we got was excuses no apology. When checking our we had been charged extra for all breakfasts as well as the same room rate for all three nights when on our booking one night was at a cheaper rate. A manager had to correct this and we had to wait nearly half an hour for this to be done, the manager did not see fit to come and see us in person or apologise. There were always plenty of staff around, not sure what they all did, but hardly any that could deal with any problems. Sorry this is such a long review but we were so disappointed with the hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2009

Spent one week at the Rosebank. Excelent hotel, but a bit too hyped and plasticy. Huge, open reception, with 4 (or 5?) isolated check-in areas in a semi-circle. The lighted plastic with marble effect made me wonder I did they not go for real marble! Be aware of the right-handside tower; older, smaller rooms, cheaper, more akin of a three star establishment. I was given a room on the left-handside tower, checked out for a day to go Tshwane and on my return was given a room on the right-handside tower. It was like I was in another hotel. Requested a room on the left tower and was given one, not as nice as the first one I had but far better then the second one.
The wonderfull breakfast (not included in the price) can set you back US$9 to US$17. Very complete and nutritious; lots of fruit, juices, cereals, croissants, sweet breads, eggs (fried, boiled, "omeleted") ham, coffee, tea, white and brown toasts, etc. Rosebank's breakfast is actually famous all over Jo'burg.
Did have lunch and dinner at the Butcher Block; some very nice dishes (heavenly chicken and prawns curry) but also overrated (stay away from the ordinary rack of ribs and go for something else). Nice beef stakes but indistinct seasoning.
Unfortunately only had time to go and see the nice gym, but did not exercise. The staff were very nice and over polite. Need to relax a bit.
You are not told that tranfers from and to the airport are not complementary and that are added to your final bill. The hotel has wireless internet in the rooms and all public areas and you have to buy air-time to use it if you have your laptop with you.

Everyone made you feel like a celebrity. The hotel is very classy and what wonderful managers, they were very accomadating. The rooms are fantastic, the restaurant superb and hanging out at the bar is the best. The drinks very reasonable. I wish I could go back tommorow. I have traveled all over the world and never felt compelled to give a review until now.
