We wanted a hotel for two nights that would allow us to tour Johannesburg & Preotria without being in the city. This hotel fit that nicely. The location is not too far from the airport or Rovos Rail where we were headed next. The rooms are very large with small balconies overlooking lawns, a lake and grazing cattle. The rooms are furnished in comfortable English manor style and we had everything we wanted. The housekeeping and front desk staff coul not have been more helpful. And then there was the restaurant. Breakfast is a buffet which was OK but I almost had to execute a flying tackle to get one of the waitstaff to bring us tea and coffee. For dinner there was a lot of pressure to again take the buffet and only grudging acceptance when we insisted on ordering off the menu. The first course (soup) took more than 30 minutes to arrive, served by an unsmiling waitress who, when asked for more bread, disappeard for another 15 minutes. This went on throughout the whole meal. The food was average but the service was incompetent and disinterested, bordering on the surly. When I mentioned it to the person ostensibly in charge the response was "most people take the buffet!" We were a table of four by the way. So, bottom line, stay at the hotel - avoid the restaurant.
