4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfcvvu-a1Rs <<<--------- Here is a video of Mountain Biking at Misty Mountain. Nice place for biking, not technical but enduring. Accomodation is good and the staff are even better. very nice for a not too experienced biker to try some fun riding.

We visited the lodge for our anniversary, we requested the honeymoon suit. The cabins are neat and clean. The bath was nicely decorated with rose pedals and a bottle bubbly in the fridge. The problem was that the bathroom had curtains that was see-through and the cabin next to us had a window in that direction. So the romantic idea of sitting in the bath drink champagne went out the window.

Otherwise the reception was very friendly. The scenery was amazing and the walk in forest was very nice.

Room Tip: If you are on honeymoon, pick the cabin at the END!!

We were booked at Misty Mountain for 4 nights (special pay for 3, and 1 free) The road in to the reserve is not made for normal cars, 5km took us 45min to drive, and some parts very bad, did damage our car. Management just laughed histerical when we arrived and complained about the road. The shower in room was black with mould, beds was uneven and smelled funny, they knew about the shower but still put us in there, and they were not fully booked. The dinner that evening was dull and tasteless and serve frozen vegetables that was just boiled!! Def not worth the 4 stars, also busy renovating, but still open for business, the smell of wet sement not nice while having tasteless dinner. We had to check-out and move because of the road as bad weather was coming and make the road even worse. Nowhere on their website they mention the road as gravel/sand, just on their signboard from the N2 "potholes is part of the adventure" Def also not 4 star service when the lady infront took us to our room in her slippers! We were overall not happy with the establishment and staff and would not recomend it at all

Our stay coincided with their maintenance period. Honestly, if there are building rubble all over the place and your dining room is only half built you should consider shutting down during the renovation period. Bedding and bathrooms are nice (king sized bed a plus). Only a kettle and fridge in the room, so you cant really call it self catering. Management is friendly and if I didnt pay full price during the renovation period I probably would have rated it average to good. Great views of the Indian Ocean, but access is a challenge with a normal sedan after heavy rain. TV did not work and management promised to sort it out the next day.

The cabin (or chalet) smelled a little…dank. Probably because we visited in the off season so the cabin didn’t have air circulation for some time. The entire park is very well kept. Clean and easy to navigate. Though the cabin itself wasn’t all that great, the park staff was. Well past the parks opening hours, the outlets in our cabin stopped working. We tried to resolve the issue on our own but we couldn’t. Desperate for help, the park staff quickly came to our rescue, fixing the issue, and even giving us another cabin’s key, in the event we had to move. Such over the top service is rarely seen at a hotel, much less a national park.

Although the resort and room were not as modern and new as expected for a 4 star rating, it was 5 star rating service and food we had. The management and staff went out of their way to make everything as convenient possible and to let us feel welcome. The food was outstanding and the backpack for our mountain bike trip was very thoughtful. So were the braaipack and salads. We took the 15km trail to the lookout point over Stormsriver that was breathtaking. Highly recommended for the mountain biker and anyone looking for a relaxing weekend! Will definately visit again!

Room Tip: The packages they offer that include meals are highly recommended above self catering as the food wa...

Booking quite late for the Easter weekend, this was not a second prize! Service was great, staff very frindly and helpful, we felt right at home! Wonderful views in a tranquil environment. Pity you cannot talk a walk down to the sea..however, close enough to other sights such as the entry to the Stormriver reserve, the bridge and Plett. Again, wonderful hospitality.
