“Not much Med”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

The Two Olives was full at 7.30pm on a Monday night; a good sign, you would have thought. The waitress promised our party of four that an inside table would come free in twenty minutes and seated us outside to wait. Our outdoor bench was pretty much in the car-park and although the wind and rain of the previous few days had died down, it was unmistakeably chilly. No matter, we ordered some drinks and waited. And waited. It took our drinks twenty minutes to arrive (‘so sorry, your order got messed up.’) Still no table indoors, so we added another layer of clothing and ordered food. Even though the food took another forty minutes to reach us, we were only invited indoors once we had finished our mains. We had pudding indoors, an altogether cosier experience that couldn't make up for our previous discomfort.

So what about the nosh then? The Two Olives offers a tapas style menu, complemented by a range of Mediterranean mains and the usual pizza/pasta fare. We shared separate tapas dishes and a mixed platter. Rice balls, falafels, halloumi, vegetables and bread were all deep fried and somewhat tasteless, leaving my mouth unpleasantly coated with grease. The accompanying babganoush (aubergine puree) and hummus were mere smears, and the portion of halloumi (an individual dish) was comprised of two tiny discs, one at either end of a long plate. The table ordered a pudding platter designed for two: slivers of cheesecake, brownies and deep-fried Lindt balls. The stingy portions and disappointing flavours do not rate The Two Olives’ inflated prices.

The waitresses seemed rushed off their feet. Maybe not their fault, but no one came to check on us or offer to top up our drinks till we had finished eating. One of the dishes was late, drink refills were forgotten and no one thanked us when we left. I’ve been to a fair few restaurants in the Mediterranean, and believe me; none of them would serve food or treat customers like this.

“the most decadent desert ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

WOW, this was a fantastic little restaurant. We had a fantastic meal, but the most amazing part was a delicious desert of which the deep fried Lindt chocolate balls were absolutely delicious! I highly recommend going there for a romantic meal or even for a corporate function as there service is excellent and their food fantastic!

“AN EXCELLENT FIND AND A MOST ENJOYABLE EVENING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

We had heard about Two Olives and decided to take pot luck and try it out and wow what a really great evening. We chose to sit downstairs and to be honest the chairs they use in the restaurant are the most comfortable that I have ever sat upon, nice back support. Lucky was our waiter for the evening and we were exceptionally well looked after. The menu is not too large but we found sufficient to meet our needs. We decided to share a starter of Spring Rolls made from black forests ham, a lovely cheese with a cranberry sauce. They were really tasteful and so glad we decided to share as it was a substantial portion. Main courses we chose Greek Lamb chops for my wife and I had the Espetada. My wife loves lamb and she commented that her chops were the leanest she had ever had and were cooked to perfection and the same can be said for my Espetada which was very tender. Wine list is pretty focused and most around the R120.00 mark, personally feel there should be a choice below the R100 mark. Decor wise it is pretty minimalist but what the heck you are there for the food and they really cook to perfection. We were there quite early in the evening so we did find service out of the kitchen very good. We most certainly look forward to going back . Just one tip, side dishes are extra so if you are having their roasted mediterranean vegetables you do not need potato wedges as the vegetables have sweet potato in them and the portion is generous.
