“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

We arrived after traveling from Knysna, the staff was very welcoming and eager to get us settled into our room. We immediately changed into our swimsuits and had a refreshing swim in the hotel pool. Grounds was clean and tidy and the hotel was being repainted. We arranged to meet up with friends who lived in PE and enjoyed a drink on the terrace. What really struck me was that the waiting staff was not hovering around your table all the while. All the staff from reception to the restaurant staff was extremely tentative and friendly. Our room had patio doors leaking to the pool area. The only negative comment I do have is that I could smell a hint of cigarette smoke in the room. The hotel staff can't be blamed for this. The casino is next door to the hotel. The breakfast was lovely and had a variety of food to choose from. The general decor of this hotel is posh.

We arrived at 9am and were allowed to check in early, at no charge. This was greatly appreciated, especially as we needed to pay 300R to check in early at another SA hotel, only 3 hours early.
The views from the hotel are stunning and worth the stay in this hotel over others. I do not believe any other hotel on this stretch of beach can claim as nice a vista as the Beach Hotel.
The staff was friendly, helpful, and courteous. During our entire stay.
The rooms are a bit outdated, but still comfortable and at a cost reduction compared to the other locations in PE.
We ate at both the Ginger and Veranda restaurant. Both were acceptable, but not outstanding in terms of both food and price, there were other restaurants closer that were better.
This hotel is conveniently located near many attractions and restaurants and is right across the road from Shark Beach.

Room Tip: Second floor with beach view rms 48-45 I believe have both an outdoor area and amazing views.

cosy room with good facilities provided. Had a lovely lunch at the Veranda Restaurant overlooking the sea. Ideal location with the Board Walk next door and opposite was Shark Point. The staff were very attentive and I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view

Our stay at the Beach Hotel in Port Elizabeth was during our first trip to South Africa. We had a three day stay at your hotel which was most memorable for many reasons. The most striking feature was the attentiveness and assistance we recieved from the staff whether reception, concierge, restaurant or management. All were so very friendly and helpful and appeared to bo out of their way to greet and assist. The room we had was wonderfully comfortable and exceptionally clean with the bonus of a view looking over the water. It certainly left us with a tremendous impression of the hospitality of South African people

This hotel is located right next to mall, casino and children's intetainment area. It's decor is a bit outdated and could do with a revamp. The beach facing suites are very spacious. I think it's a bit expensive. The breakfast was good. There were mostly older people in the hotel.

Room Tip: The beach facing rooms are best

We visited this hotel on what has to be one of the busiest weekends - Ironman SA, so had no great expectations but we couldnt have been more wrong! The Beach Hotel has without doubt The friendliest and most helpful staff of any hotel we have ever stayed. This started from the minute we arrived with a handshake from the Porter to every single member of staff, whether they were serving in one of the restaurants, cleaning the room or simply passing by in the passage - very impressive! The rooms are well...hotel rooms, but spotlessly clean and in our case thankfully not sea-facing but nicely tucked away in a courtyard, otherwise we wouldnt have got any peace with the festivities taking place on the beachfront. The bufet breakfasts were extremly good and we ate in the hotel restaurant Ginger both nights. The wine selection is good, the steaks were sublime, the calamari could be spiced up a bit more, the Lamb shanks succulent and once again suberb service - what more could one want!

Very typical old style city hotel. Excellent position overlooking the sea, and the food was very good, as was the service.

Room Tip: Ideally sea view
