“Awesome marine outing in Algoa Bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

A special and unique experience, sums up our whale watching and sea trip out with Lloyd Edwards and Raggy Charters. A slight swell did nothing to dampen this sea voyage, Lloyd and his super boat was comfortable and in no time we where out a small group of islands called St Croix, in Algoa Bay. A number of Dolphins swam close to the boat, stunning seeing them up close at hand, and St Croix was a revelation with many Penguins and Cape fur seal breeding there.Lloyd evidently has great local knowledge and was a wealth of information on all the sea life we came across. This trip,is highly recommended for all conservation and nature lovers. Visiting Port Elizabeth, a definite " must " to put on your list of things to do. Thanks Lloyd.

“Great experience, worth every rand!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

It is really easy to book. I called late afternoon and was offered a tour the next morning. The catamaran is quite big and also has a platform on the roof of the cabin. You have to climb on it (no ladder), but it offers a better view and a great feeling during full speed.
The guy (Lloyd) was on time and after only a few minutes we were heading towards St Croix, an island full of penguins. However, their number is decreasing and according to him the trip also supports scientific research on the topic. He made sure that you can get close to the animals without disturbing them to much.
We did not spot dolphins during the way to the island and on our way back close to the coast. However, he changed course after we told him that we spotted a big group from beach in the morning. That’s when we found a group of more than 100 dolphins. We approached them really slowly and after a few minutes were directly within the group. Simply amazing! He himself was extremely thrilled too, you could easily see it’s more than a job for him. After twenty minutes we had to leave, since it is not allowed to stay close to the animals any longer. Because of the changed course, the tour lasted even longer than promised.
He answers all the question but also let’s you enjoy the trip and tries all he can to let you take pictures to impress all your friends.

“What an amazing experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

We were privileged as a family to experience sights usually limited to a zoo or aquarium. Lloyd was simply fantastic and the joy experienced by the children (and us as parents) was truly the highlight of a wonderful visit to South Africa. Can only recommend this to anyone contemplating a charter out to sea. A trip of a lifetime

“Great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Some friends of mine and myself had the pleasure to go on a cruise with Raggy Charters on the 17th of March. I got in touch with Raggy Charters (Lloyd) some time before the actual date and his responses were always very quick and informative. It was obvious that this would be a very professional ride.

As we were very lucky with the weather the start couldn’t have been better. From the beginning we were provided with comprehensive information about the coastal environment and the animal life within and around Algoa Bay.

We saw a white shark (a small one, but it was a “Great White”), seals dolphins, penguins and a variety of birds.

Of course it is sad to hear about the huge decrease of the number of penguins during the last years. The more we appreciate the work Lloyd and his team are doing to protect the remaining ones and this really takes a lot of effort.

We can only highly recommend to book a boat trip with Raggy Charters, because it will enrich your knowledge in general and besides you will have a gorgeous day on the sea.

“Tranquil, informative experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

From the moment we emailed Lloyd, we realised that this would be a good, well-organised experience. We booked about a month in advance and we were in contact with Lloyd until the actual day. The trip was amazing, with my highlight being the dolphins. We were cruising along with dolphins for at least a third of the way. To be that close to them and to see them frolicking in the ocean right in front of you is truly exhilarating. We were amazed to see that the islands had absolutely no vegetation on them (except for the much further away Bird Island) yet the penguins seemed so happy there. Sadly the penguin numbers have dwindled greatly in recent years. We were given so much information about the history of St Croix island as well as knowledge about the birds and their past. We left the cruise with a wealth of knowledge and our tummies full of the delicious food we purchased at the restaurant at the club.
