“Owners makes it special”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

We stayed here recently for a couple of nights whilst in PE. The property is set in the old town, parts of which are being thriving areas again. The cottage we had (#15) was very comfortable, with a lounge/kitchen, bedroom, en suite and a pretty private courtyard. Also an attached garage. Just a few minutes walk away is a delightful collection of restaurants and cafés, serving meals throughout the day. The owner, Roy, is the star of the show though! After meeting us and checking us in, he advised on the local area and then drove us round the city fir an impromptu tour. He was born and bred in the PE area and lived in the city for many years. He is very enthusiastic and knowledgable about his city and it was a pleasure spending time with him. I have to admit that he warned us that there were certain directions from the cottage that she shouldn't take and of some precautions to take at all times. So it is a part of the city which needs a little care. We spent some time at the waterfront area of the city, which is a shirt drive away. This is more of a tourist area and is a lovely area fir strolling along the beach and promenade.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the complimentary review. We are so proud of our Richmond Hill neighborhood and how the Port Elizabeth city center has undergone a massive revival. It was a pleasure to share this with you.
Happy travels.

Kindest regards,

Roy

Absolutely enchanting! From the moment we made our booking via e mail till the morning of our departure we were delighted with both the charming accommodation as well as the help and assistance from our host and his staff. What a treat it was to come "home" to such a tranquil environment after a hectic day of catching up with friend from the past

My family and I were treated in the most horrendous manner at Belvedere Cottages on 15 Edward Street, Richmond Hill. We had requested a late check-out (by one hour), not a lot to ask for considering we had booked out both properties and my disabled 80+ year old grandmother could not get into my 4x4, hence the need to wait for alternative transport. Roy Bouwer point blank refused, said it was not his problem after lying about another family taking early occupation of his establishment, forcing my entire family to wait on the street-from my 3 year old toddler to my immobile grandmother. I experienced the most disgusting treatment from any establishment I’ve ever stayed in and would certainly never stay there again.

Dear Malerato,

You placed us in a very difficult situation on the morning of your departure.

You announced 15 minutes before check out (which is 10h00) that you would not be leaving at the agreed check out time.

I explained to you that guests had made an arrangement weeks in advance to book in early and that we could not accommodate your request. It was at this point that you became aggressive.

As it happened, the next guests did arrive while your family was still waiting for their lift.

We meant no disrespect to you and your family for requesting you to honour the check out time.

UNPAID FOR GUESTS :
We were however, horrified when our support staff reported that three EXTRA guests (not paid for) stayed over at the cottage. You also damaged (cracked open) the DSTV remote device for which we have not been reimbursed and nor did you offer any compensation. Your son also broke the remote gate motor by ripping off the cover which was witnessed by yourself, myself and my assistant. We have subsequently affected the necessary repairs and have chosen not to hold you accountable for this account.

Your three extra guests were not part of your original booking. Why have you not made appropriate arrangements in this regard rather than hoping that it will go unnoticed?

In the final analysis, you ignored our policies in totality and tried to run rough shod over what is standard industry practice.

You have in fact stayed with us previously and were extremely happy with the service that we provided hence your second booking. Why was the first booking a perfect stay?

Your extremely malicious review is not indicative to the wonderful reviews that we have received over several years of providing great service at very affordable rates.

You will always be welcome at any of our establishments.

Kind regards,

Roy

The owner Roy is a delightful person and extremely helpful if you are new to the area. He helped us with travel tips as well as driving us around the cottage area to get us oriented with the place. The cottage is very well maintained and great value for the money. It's large and very spacious.

Delightful accomodation with small pretty garden and attentive and charming host. Friendly emails on booking, phone contact on landing at PE, greeting at the cottage and directions to the best restaurants, Roy could not have done more to make us welcome and settled in. Would return without hesitation, and recommend to others. John and Annie.

The cottages are clean and comfortable with cute furniture and they are self-contained with everything you would need for a stay in PE, complete with the best tour guide found in the host; Roy. Roy is a lovely person with a great heart. He took time out of his day to help us return our hire car to the airport and gave us a tour of PE with lots of helpful tips on the surrounding dining experience with a history of the area. Location is great as it is only a 10 min drive to the airport. Wish we had stayed for more than one night! Also the restaurant just down the road Fuisin serves great sushi.
