“Fantastic Setting and Safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

A wonderful lodge with fantastic game reserve. Great attention to detail whilst retaining the authentic on-safari feel. Not over commercialised and not a disney-style attraction. Casper looked after us at the lodge superbly and Ebin was a knowledgeable and wonderful guide. Three nights was great. No need for any longer. Be prepared to be out game viewing for a few hours as the animals do not appear on demand. Fantastic.

Well what can I say that hasn't been said already.not much really, we
Ended our two week tour of South Africa with a three night stay in this amazing place. The rooms, view, food, atmosphere were all fantastic.
Casper kept us fed and watered and as for Noni, well an amazing guy. Eyes that see the impossible, a sense of humour that you can't help laughing with him. Very passionate and knowledgeable.
Loved the whole experience.three days is plenty of time to see it all.

Spent 4 nights at Amakhala. Game viewing was excellent due to experience and knowledge of our ranger Noni, and the animals of course. Noni makes sure that you see as much as you can and don't miss anything. Noni is very friendly and informative. Amakhala has a rule of not having more than 2 vehicles at a time at a siting which is good. Noni also took us to Born Free Foundation and Addo Elephant Park both nearby - again brilliant. We were fortunate to see some of the cats at Born Free and hear about the good work of Born Free; and some wonderful elephants at Addo.

The accommodation is very good, air con put on for you after a hot drive; heating on after a cool evening drive. Great view from rooms with nyalas and tortoises passing by and zebra and giraffes in distance. bird watching good to. The game drives are longer here than some other safari parks meaning you get more game drive time and enough time to relax in between. The quality of the food is good though more imagination on vegetarian options would be welcome. Once again thank you Noni and Casper the butler. Would love to return soon.

Our stay at the Safari lodge was everything we had hoped it would be and more. Noni was an excellent guide full of knowledge, enthusiasm and humour bringing us unbelievably close to the animals but never feeling intrusive. Our accommodation was amazing - the bath with a view, the outdoor showers, the small lounge area next to the tree full of birds - the bird ID book was a brilliant inclusion. Sundowners on the plains next to a group of giraffe and a view of grazing zebra and antelope were a special touch. Maybe the veggie food could do with a little tweaking but just grateful that you even provided an option for us. All in all a great way to spend the last three days of our highly memorable fortnight in a beautiful country.

Casper - the butler; Noni - the ranger.

Thank you for a memorable and faultess holiday.

Most frightening experience, the spider in the bathroom!
Most nervous experience, the elephant that got too close.
Most romantic experience, the dining for two in front of the log fire, with candlight.
Mos regrettable experience, coming home!

The Safari lodge staff made sure we had a memorable stay. They were always cheerful, full of fun and ready to help whenever needed. The public areas were clean and cared for and the food was delicious and freshly prepared. Thatched huts were roomy and very private but the fabric of some needs attention - e.g. the mosquito netting around the bed had holes in and the front awning had rips in it. Other than that everything was lovely. There were so many wild animals to see and we saw them all, thanks to the diligence of our guide, Nonni. The picture of elephants playing in the river will stay in my mind for a very long time, as will sundowner drinks in the company of giraffes!

We finished our trip to South Africa with a great stay at the Lodge in a beautiful area where we were able to view wildlife first hand thanks to our amazing ranger, Nomo. He was caring, funny and extremely knowledgeable, and was able to find animals where you would think none existed. He got a great spirit going in our Land Rover and we had a good mix of fellow travellers, which helped make it a great experience. (Make sure he is your guide!)

The accommodation was good, if rustic and we were serenaded each night by a frog chorus from the pond outside our Lodge. It was great to wake early to find wildlife romping outside our window.

The food was very good (particularly the BBQ, although there was too much of it, and our Butler, Casper and the main chef were excellent. Sundowners in the wild were a great treat.

We felt that three nights were just right to take in the experience and we really enjoyed being away from it all. If you are in South Africa, this trip is a must to round off your holiday.

Room Tip: Choose a lodge away from the pond and frog chorus.
