“3 night stay in one of the cottages”

The cottages are set in lovely grounds with wonderful views. Unfortunately we didn't have v good weather (apparently it was unusually cold and warmed up again the day we left!) so lit the fires in the evening and Brain cooked us delicious meals. The swimming pool area looked fabulous but unfortunately we didn't get to use it!

Don't be misled by the word studio. The apartment is huge, with great views. Only slight drawback was the private outside area, not very welcoming. But there were plenty of other outdoor places to sit. Grounds are extensive' and attractive. Outdoor furniture a little jaded and will need replacing soon. There are two friendly pet pigs, and a dog. Studio is in same building as hotel so you do get the smell of bacon wafting up in the morning. You can join the hotel guests for meals, if you prearrange this.

Wonderful property and grounds, loved playing with the dogs and Ruby and Raleigh the pet porkers were amusing and cheeky characters. Our travel agent did not make it clear there were various animals and whilst we loved them I know people who would not have been comfortable, especially with the piggies.

Fynbos Ridge is a hidden gem just outside the village of Plettenberg. I was not so impressed by Plettenberg, it is just a seaside town with a long sandy beach with not a lot of swimming to be done because of the waves (and the water is rather cold, even here)

However, off the main through road, there is this lovely guesthouse with some cottages in the garden overlooking the mountains, taking you away from the touristic and busy areas.

Our cottage was huge, the furthest down from the house with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a huge living, kitchen and terrace. Washing machine and dryer outside and you can park your car just next to the cottage. You are completely private in your cottage but a cute path between the plants and flowers will take you to the main house or the pool with magnificent views.

The cottage is fully fitted with everything you might need and we had a nice bbq on our terrace on Christmas. For chilly days you can light the fire indoors. Our bathroom was really nice with a big round tub with a garden view.

The owners are superfriendly and have some cute pigs and dogs walking around.

Breakfast is optional and served in the main house with fresh produce and eggs etc. We really loved our stay here.

we had fabulous two night stay at Fynbos Ridge. We had a two bedroom cottage which was ideal for my family. Lovely bathrooms and products. The owners brought down dinner in the evenings for us as we were staying with our four year old. The piggies wandering the estate were a highlight together with the great views. Breakfast is superb. Highly recommended.

Stayed for four nights in feb/march with husband and baby daughter. A lovely friendly welcome.

Cottage: The cottage was amazing, really nicely decorated, spacious, great views and secure. The cot provided for our baby was brilliant - a proper wooden cot with drop down side and thick mattress. We were in the furthest cottage so wifi coverage was patchy but ok if you walked up to reception area and sat outside. Fully equipped kitchen with microwave and oven. Ensuite bathroom had a bath and there was a separate shower room opposite smaller bedroom with hot powerful shower. Had a few problems with ants but husband dealt with those and being in Africa I was grateful they weren't lions...

Food: We had dinner cooked by Brian on one night and delivered to the cottage which was delicious. We didn't have breakfast included so cant comment on that . Great cafes in Plettenberg bay and of course could fully self cater.

Location: 15 mins drive into Plettenberg Bay but when we visited there were roadworks taking place allowing traffic only in one direction at a time so could have to wait up to 20mins to get out - be flexible - go to Knysna if the traffic is flowing the other way! The grounds of Fynbos ridge are really beautiful and there is a small pool with a lovely view although a bit cold for me. Could easily spend a few days just chilling out at the cottage but would have been a shame to miss Plettenberg Bay.

Only minor negative was that I thought laundry was quite expensive - paid 150 rand for a small carrier bag of washing compared to 60 rand for 3 bags at our previous accommodation of similar standard but I didnt check the cost before I handed it in so entirely my fault.

Would definitely recommend and hope to go back in the future. Thanks for a great stay!

We had come over a very long mountain pass so were grubby and our car muddy. This oasis of calm was very welcome.

We stayed in the big house in a superb room that was huge, with a bed seven feet wide and everything else you could expect. There's somewhere to sit outside (or rather a huge patio), a massive bathroom and loads of storage, in fact a whole room for bags! At night frogs croak away from the nearby pond - there is also apparently a pool but we didn't see it.

Breakfast was excellent with a couple of tame pigs walking in and out!

One issue - the shower was terrible. But they did wash our car without asking!

Room Tip: Rooms on the pond side give a great night time chorus
