“Outstanding Accommodation, Location and Hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012

Having travelled throughout South Africa on a number of occasions, and most recently for three and a half weeks in February 2012, I can confidently recommend the Thanda Vista, Plettenberg Bay as the stand out Guest House/B&B accommodation we stayed in to date. We were greeted by the proprietor, JP, and given a detailed briefing on the town and its attractions including maps and dinning out recommendations - all of which were spot-on!. The location is, literally, three minutes drive to the centre of the town and within 150 metres from the beach while our room, the Tulip, had a fantastic sea view and sheltered but airy balcony - as do all the sea-facing rooms. Our room was ample to our needs and equipped on par with most top class hotels. The breakfasts were excellent - prepared by Petro, JP's wife, with lots of little touches that made the experience memorable.

By contrast with one recent reviewer of this Guest House, we found the proprietors completely unobtrusive and helpful even providing us with beach chairs and umbrella for our entire stay. I find it incomprehensible that anyone could feel that the proprietors were in any way interfering or acted as "grandparents" - this is simply not true.

In conclusion, we found the Thanda Vista to be the best location we stayed in on our entire visit to South Africa nad would not hesitate in giving it the highest possible recommendation for anyone seeking five star value withouth comprimising on quality. A truly memorable place to stay.

Room Tip: If you like to have a view I suggest that you choose a room with a sea view. I ticked the box for S...

What a wonderful stay! Breakfast was delicious and such a relaxing atmosphere on the veranda! JP and Petro are so sweet; they provided great advice on the surrounding area and made our stay very comfortable! Didn't want to leave. Great location (right off the N2), felt very safe, quiet neighborhood and close to the center of town and other main attractions (you still need a car). Our room was very clean and you get a chocolate treat every day :) Would definitely stay here again, you have a great establishment, keep up the good work!

We were very disappointed with value for money, we paid a premium for a room with a sea view and this was minimal, and the room was very very small. The staff were pleasant but as a young couple (20's) we felt like we were under the supervision of our grand-parents and this was a little unsettling at times. There was no possibility of being able to walk into the town as the roads were steep, no street lights and no paths. After spending 3 weeks travelling and staying in various types of accomodation this was the only place that fell below our expectations.

Room Tip: Check for cheaper accomodation and one closer to the town should you wish to have a few drinks witho...

ThandaVista, Owner at Thanda Vista, responded to this review, February 15, 2012
It has taken some time for us to respond to this review as we had to establish who were the guests that posted the review. Secondly we had the assessor of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa due to come around and do the annual inspection to review our 4 Star Grading.
The couple stayed in the Iris room which, as confirmed by the assessor, is not small and has a good sea view. There are 2 chairs and a table in the room intended to be placed on the balcony in front of the room. They elected to leave this in the room as they only stayed for 1 night.
According to the written report received from Booking.com on their annual visit last year, our room rates "are R200 per night below the average for Plettenberg Bay". I personnaly received the couple on their arrival, welcomed them and prior to registering them gave a brief summary of the activities they can enjoy in the area as well as to where the best eating places are to be found. They were then showed the room and were briefly orientated about the use of the appliances, etc in the room.We only saw them again the next morning at breakfast. Guests come and go as they wish as they have their own complete seperate entrance to the building. Grandparents, unsettling???. It is true that we strongly recommend that guests do not walk to the centre of town during the night for the reasons mentioned in the review. But this goes for about 90% of all the accommodation establishments in Plett as the centre of town is situated on a hill. There are taxis if you do not want to drive. They are inexpensive, always available and contact numbers are posted in the guest lounge.

Very stylish, but also cozy rooms with plenty of details to give each room with a special theme. Great hospitality, perfect service, the hosts are just great :) The breakfast is extraordinary "you can easily skip your lunch" fresh fruit of the season and most important: the cooked breakfast arrives H O T at your lovely set table (even with a little flag of your home country).
Good value for money and for us it was not the last visit for sure.

Room Tip: try to travel out of season and look for a room with sea views

What a wonderful place to stay! A home away from home. The hosts are the friendliest and helpful people I've come across. The location is such that you can enjoy the beautiful view of the surroundings. The breakfast is divine. The flavours and aromas of the coked breakfast are to die for. You are also centrally located so you can hop in the car drive to Keaurbooms,Tsitsikamma or Knysna. Definitely to be noted as one of the places to stay!

LOvely hosts who were very helpful during our trip and readily available. Peaqceful location with wonderful views from the dining room. Pleasant rooms (if a little small) and very clean. Access to internet in lounge at all times, which we found useful.

Room Tip: You rteally could see the sea from our balcony and rooms on the front were bright and sunny.
