I recently walked the delightful 50 metres from the Kurland Hotel to their new restaurant Katarina's. The rose-garden, the exquisite historic architecture, and knowing I was going to the old barn of the homestead had me in anticipation of something special in store.
Nothing prepares one for the view from the barn's verandah - earth has nothing finer to please the eye.
The friendliness of the staff is overwhelming - but it's the presentation of the meal that is so remarkeable: every dish is so wonderfully arranged it's a delight to the eye - and in a not-nouvelle-cuisene way, either.
I had their avovado Ritz - which had marvellously-sized prawns - and their ( salmon ! ) fish cake,
and both were surmounted by the finest sauces you've ever tasted - and isn't a chef proven by his sauces ?
All in all, a most unforgettable experience, and my guests both felt that, in addition to a fabulous meal, a surcharge could have been added for the ambience and the view !
