“Halcyon feels like home, only better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2009

We booked at the Halcyon at the last minute and were booked into a tiny room, all that was left. Even so it was very clean and served our needs for a comfortable night. Charles welcomed us warmly and found us a great restaurant for dinner on the beach, even attending to detailed driving instructions as part of the road had washed out. He offered us a welcome libation and shared great stories about South Africa; even offering suggestions for background reading. (By the way, Charles, I found Frontiers on Amazon.com and have ordered it.) We will definitely choose Halcyon again, although we will book in advance next time so we can have one of the bigger rooms.

Thank you to Judy and Charles for a lovely stay. The Kingfisher room is five star with a great outlook. Charles is a great host and makes a great breakfast. Plettenberg Bay is a beautiful place, be sure to have lunch at Moby Dicks on the beach. Visit the Knysna elephant sanctuary, stay overnight if you really like elephants.

Upon arrival was met by Judy. She served us scones & Tea. Though we booked the Nautilius Rm we decided to stay in the Kingfisher Suite. The room has under floor heating, which keeps us warm in cold nights. We were the only guest there as it was low season, we had all the attention we wanted. Judy recommended some good restuarants for dinner. We stayed there for 4 nts (10-14 Sep).
Hylcyon is situated in a residential area. If you are not fuzzy about location, its a nice homely place to stay..Breakfast was good. There are 4 guest rooms.
They do have a pool thus they do not encourage children to stay with them. If your child could swim, they welcome you to stay.We could not have found without the GPS system. Driving to town takes about 10mins.They have a spa bath in the Kingfisher suite. The shower bath was fantastic, as they have 4 showers spraying at you at different directions. Very Relaxing.

We only spent two lovely days at Halcyon House, but we enjoyed every minute of them .. from our glass of wine upon our arrival to the tips for our route to the next location. The house is exquisite, the hosts very attentive and the surrounding area gorgeous. I especially enjoyed opening the curtains to that wonderful view in the morning and going downstairs to be greeted with smiles, fresh coffee and a beautifully set breakfast table!

This is a message of thank you to Charles and Judy for the best 5 days of our 26 day South African Holiday -many highlights such as Charles for breakfast , a game of pool at the bar , the gracious luxury of The Fingfisher Suite and a beautiful dinner on the Verandah .
However there many more fantastic moments -a walk to the beach for a morning swim - nearly got lost - but that is Michael at his best - the late night bed cap faithfully at waiting our return each night
My highlight of the 5 days was undoubtledly accepting Charles ofer of his kayak - an he sent us up the lagoon with a quite delicious picnic + champagne on board - we did get home safe and sound and lived to tell the tale of a great adventure
Great memories - we have some pics which will follow

We stayed for a week in Halcyon House in Feb 2009. The house is spacious and a real oasis of tranquility, with excellent comfortable accommodation and lovely views over plettenberg Bay. Judy and Charles were wonderful hosts and had thought of all the little details which set this guest house above the rest. ( Charles makes superb breakfasts too ! ) We really enjoyed our experience and would stay there again when next we visit South Africa.

What a beautiful house to stay in while visiting the Garden Route. Charles was the perfect host at all times, nothing too much trouble for him whatsoever.
Breakfast was fantastic, everything you could want for (including the views).
A 20 min walk down the beach will take you into town where there are a good few restaurants. You must go to the "Lookout" to watch the kite-surfers.
Anyone planning to stay in Plett MUST stay at the Halcyon House, or miss a truely wonderful experience.
