“Magnificent stained glass and great grnad old organ.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

I worshiped there for the larger part of my stay in Grahamstown and the best part was singing the old hymns and listening to the organ. The choir was also great and the Bible studies were great too.

“Grahamstown Cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

We spent about 1½ hour in the cathedral and really enjoyed the visit. The inside is beautiful with many memorial plaques and lots of history. One artist signed his plaques by carving mice in the wood. It was fun to find.

The cathedral has lovely stained glass windows. The windows were interesting because when the church was designed they were made slightly narrower than usual. This was to ensure that the lighting is the same as in English cathedrals even with the South Africa’s brighter sunlight.

“A church with a few interesting statues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Most people who visit it come to trace their ancestors of relatives. Rather odd to have a cathedral in such a small town. The bell ringing is worth waiting for.

“Magnificent Cathedral Of Grahamstown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

This historical Cathedral overlooks the centre of Grahamstown.
It was opened in 1830 and has the tallest spire in South Africa of almost 54 metres.
It is the centre of the SpiritFest celebrations of the National Arts Festival which takes place at the beginning of July each year.
The SpiritFest includes choir and organ recitals, bell ringing demonstrations and christian based films.
It is well worth a visit especially during the Festival.

“Grahamstown Cathedral”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

Very historical . It has been a house of God and a refuge during Frontier wars which were fought around its walls .
The existance of this Cathedral allows the town of Grahamstown to be called a City , because it has a Cathedral . There are a huge number of churches in Grahamstown - more than in any other in South Africa I think . Well worth a visit - allot of history in Grahamstown , and it is vibrant with student life of Rhodes University
