“Great Game Reserve”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Unfortunately we only had one night at Lalibela , but we thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent there. We were extremely well fed, our chalet was great and we were very well looked after. We had a game drive in the evening and again early the following morning. Our ranger was brilliant finding as many animals as he could.

My husband and I visited Lalibela 3 weeks ago with 2 friends and it was just marvelous. Being in the middle of the bush with a stunning view is something exeptional. Graig was our "ranger" and he did a fantastic job, driving us so close to the animals that one thought one can actually pet them. The whole staff is just great and leaves no room for complaints. Thanks again for making our stay such an experience. Gabi & Andi Stuttgart

An amazing experience, great location/accommodation, superb staff

As this was our first Safari we had no idea what to expect, therefore were a little surprised on arrival at Lantaba Lodge to be told that as this was not a fenced in lodge and we could expect visitors. When asked what type we were told Lions and Elephants!!!! – Definitely added to the adventure aspect of the holiday.

The staff were all excellent and really went out of their way to make sure you had absolutely everything you wanted. We thought the stop to watch sunset with a drink and nibbles was a nice touch but to then be met on our return to the Lodge with a cocktail and hot towel sealed the deal

Accommodation was very comfortable and the food was brilliant with a varied menu.

Game drives were very adventurous and had no idea that we would get as close to animals as we did (Being charged by a bull elephant was unexpected but certainly exciting).

The list of animals we saw is too long to add to this review, however, saw everything we could have hoped for apart from the Leopard which we now understand is something that very few people ever see

The Guides were knowledgeable and helpful and Siya who we went out with the most was great

Lauren who is the Lodge Manager was always available and did everything possible to make sure you had a great stay. Sean who also worked at the Lodge was always on hand with a smile ready for anything you might want.

They really do go that extra mile for people staying here and it is without doubt one of the best experiences we have ever had.

Other people staying here had more experience of Sarafi's than us and some said that there are more luxurious lodges (and therefore more expensive) to stay at, however, all of them agreed that Lalibela was superb and personally we would highly recommend to anyone. Comfort, accommodation and hospitality were everything that we could have hoped for.

Our thanks to Lauren and all the staff plus all the Game Guides. You made this an experience we will never forget

Our stay at Mark's Camp was a delight - excellent accommodation and food, but the staff made it - our ranger, Craig, was a fountain of knowledge and delivered all the animal sightings we were after, several times over; Charmain and her lodge staff were attentive, and the little things such as all staff knowing our names within 2 hours of arriving, chocolates and turn down service, and little notes on African stories behind the animals - lovely touches.

Room Tip: We had room 8, 2 bedrooms, and was fine.

Passing the entrance gate we already spotted hippos - of course just their noses, warthogs with their young's, and lots of more small animals we couldn't name at that time.

We arrived with a super warm welcome at Lalibela late afternoon, the ranger was already excited to show us some animals he spotted. And we were not disappointed at all: Mother Lion with her cubs and a young male relaxing in the sunset. After a while looking for the older male we were lucky and found him also very relaxing but observing a herd of impalas. We could also see one of the rhinos moving around only after 1 hour being at Lalibela.

After a while - we spotted lots of gemsbok, impalas, warthogs, so many birds, wildebeests .... we enjoyed at the sunset a selection of drinks and snacks in the middle of the game reserve. So beautiful!!!

After returning to the lodge we had a little bit time for taking a shower and coming back for having dinner and a cultural dance. Food was very good.

Next morning before we started the very early game drive we had the chance to get a cup of coffee/tea, juice, cereals, toast and jam. Wonderful and just brilliant game drive and after returning it was served a brunch, with just very delicious food and drinks.

Afternoon we relaxed at the pool, our son spent some time with the kids organizer. Late afternoon game drive again - and it was not boring at all too see few more animals and the same at different places again.

We had a power cut that night (living in Vietnam, we are used to it :)) but the staff were super helpful providing lots of torches and the lodges were already prepared for that case. Dinner was a candle light dinner, the fire was burning in chimney - so lovely.

All in all: very good food, game drives, staff, everything was perfect for us.

We saw the following animals over 2 days:
Vervet monkey, lions, small grey man goose, yellow mongoose, elephants, white rhinos, zebras, warthog, hippo, giraffe, blesbok, black wildebeest, eland, gemsbok, impala, kudu, red hartebeest, springbok, waterbuck, ostrich, cormorant, heron, egret, ibis, duck, shelduck, goose, buzzards and sooo many more. As well the ranger explained lots of plants. Whenever we asked something he could answer that. And our son had a lot of questions!!!

Memorable and wonderful, in equal measure. The setting (we stayed at Treetops) was fabulous enough, but the welcome and the service of the staff was extraordinarily good. The safaris were thrilling too.
