The Jerome State Historic Park includes the Douglas Mansion & the surrounding grounds, with their displays of mining equipment. It is a 5 min drive out of the town of Jerome. As a state park, entrance is very reasonable & parking is free & plentiful.
Jerome's boom days began in 1876 & the mine owner built his imposing home in 1916. You'll need about 2 hours to see all the rooms & the grounds. In addition to seeing how the mine owner lived, there is plenty of information on mining techniques & the minerals found in the area.
JHSP has fantastic views in all directions. The design of the house was very much state of the art & the building has been carefully restored. The short film included in the tour is really helpful in understanding the amazing history of Jerome.
We visited the JSHP at the end of our visit to Jerome; in retrospect I'd do the reverse. The film is a great starting point as it identifies the most interesting places to visit.
Jerome is a really great place to see, very charming, easy on the eye & with lots of galleries to browse around. Quite unique, I'd say. JHSP is a 'must see' for anyone spending time in the area.
