It sounds like the owners have started renovating the wigwams, and it couldn't be soon enough. They certainly are getting a bit tired -- which is a shame, because the property is such a wonderful piece of Americana. I've stayed here 3 times -- 2 times more than I would have had the kids not loved it. The unrenovated rooms are essentially a one-star motel. Not horrible (and at least relatively clean, if you ignore some mold and paint issues), but not great. At least the beds tend to be OK. Bathrooms probably need the most work, with some serious water pressure issues in many of the wigwams.

Picky people should definitely stay away. Route 66 buffs, and those travelling with kids, will probably be the happiest. Have the kids see the "Cars" movie before their stay -- the hotel is the Cosy Cone in the film. For everyone else it's, well, an experience. Here's hoping I get a renovated wigwam next time!

We stayed in Wigwam 6 for one night in September.
For the novelty value it was worth staying but don't expect too much.
The 'Wigwam' has two beds, a TV and an air con unit which you could hear from a mile away!
If you are tall you will not be able to have a shower in the morning due to the size of the shower unit.
Not the cleanest place we have stayed in and if you don't mind the noise of 100 carriage trains passing regularly in the night you will be able to sleep!
I think you will find that one night will be long enough but it is worth the experience of staying in a concrete wigwam for $60.

I had known about this place for years and had always wanted to stay there. On the first night of a week long road trip my wife and I stayed here and it was everything we expected and more. We stayed in wigwam #1 and when we opened the door our first thought was "Oh, how neat". The room was bigger than we thought it would be (not too much smaller than a normal motel room). Walking in the room was like walking back in time. The room and motel had a definite ambiance that most chain motels will never have. True, it really lacks amenities, the TV is old, the bathroom is tiny with no shampoo or lotion, hair dryer, etc, but that's what makes this place so unique. What other motel has its quests wandering around in the morning taking pictures of the place as almost everyone was when we checked out. If you are into nostalgic Americana, this is a place you've got to spend a night. Other reviewers had complained of noise from the passing trains. We heard them, but they didn't seem that loud and it certainly did not keep us from sleeping.

“Visually excellent, but smelled musty”

If you want to step back in time and imagine what it was like to travel in the fifties, then this is your place.

Stay away if you are looking for ammenities.

Room smelled musty, but looked clean.

We arrived at 9PM, and had reservations. When I was about to pay I asked if there was a AAA discount and was offered 10% off if I paid cash. I didn't have the cash, but I was given the discount anyway.

Great photo ops if you like old cars and it does sound funny to people when we tell them we spent the night in a Wig Wam.

My kids now have a point of reference when they think of Route 66.
