My wife, young son and I stayed here for 2 nights in July 2007 and had a hotel room (as opposed to a condo). First the good news: The place was very new, wonderfully decorated, quiet, nice balconies, state of the art thermostats, large bathroom and larger than needed walk-in closet. The common areas were spotless, nice pool with good music playing on the radio speakers, beautiful lobby.

Now the bad news: Our room had a nice television (Sony) but it was sideways to the bed! Not exactly the most comfortable way to watch TV. Surprisingly, for a new hotel with the Wyndham name, there was an item missing that the average Super 8 includes: a hair dryer.

Sadly, service was much less than expected in a new Wyndham. First, the electronic lock on our door was malfunctioning and would often lock us out. I had to make multiple trips to the lobby to get new keys made, only to return again after one use. A work order was made and I was assured by maintenance on Monday at 12:30pm (day 2) that a manager would come and fix the lock; we checked out Tuesday at 10am and the lock had not been fixed nor even looked at except by the maintenance man. Worse than this, on our first morning, the maids knocked on the door at 9am to clean the room. I told them we would be out in 30 minutes so they could clean. We went for breakfast and a drive up the mountain and returned at 1230 to find the room uncleaned. I called the front desk and told the lady and she told me that she would check and advise. She called back 5 minutes later and told me that room service would be by at 1:30. We left for the pool at 1:00 and returned at 2:30 to find the room still dirty. I called the new clerk on-duty (Julie) who told me that the maids had left and she sent the maintenance man up to our room with a bag of towels, coffee and soap. She said that the maids came by twice (not true) and “I'm sorry sir.” Not as sorry as I was nor as sorry as Wyndham will be as I will not stay there again.

I stayed at the resort for 2 days on business. I was expecting a typical hotel, but they put me in a huge suite with a full kitchen, living area, separate bedroom and a balcony. I spent most of time on the balcony looking out over the pool, mountains and 18th green. I wish I could have stayed for the weekend because the golf course looked to be in good shape. Its a really nice place, pretty secluded as its about 40 minutes from Tucson. So not really any nightlife, but I definitely was able to relax there. I took some videos and photos which I posted here.

Wyndham Canoa Ranch Resort is part hotel, and part private condo... The deal is that someone buys one of the condos that make up this three story building... Wyndham then manages the rental of the condos as hotel rooms or suites... Each condo has two doors.... You can rent the entire condo or you can rent the half the condo as a hotel room...

We came away very disappointed... The room's window faced into a vertical air shaft and the drapes had to be kept closed because the other side of the air shaft was a big picture window that provided light to the lobby for the elevator... We also did not sleep well because of the large number of noises... We were on the second floor of this three story building... Despite carpeted rooms, we could hear every footstep and plumbing noise coming from above... Also, the door that separates the two sections of the condo into hotel rooms had a large gap under it which allowed light and sounds from the other half of the condo leaking into our space... This is a much less secure system than the typical double door setup between adjoining rooms in a normal hotel... The final downer for our stay was that the a/c system is located in the clothes closet! If you enjoy standing on the tarmac at a major airport during jet operations, you will love this a/c system... I wouldn't have thought this type of setup was even legal!

On the plus side, the telephone system is internet based so that all calls within the continental U.S. are unlimited and free...

So, bring your earplugs and eye shades and plan on making all those long distance calls you have been putting off because of cost...
