“Lots of Pluses and One Huge Minus”

Best Western Green Valley

Aug 10, 2006

If my wife and I were to rate the Best Western in Green Valley for only our room and the adjoining accommodations, I suspect that we would give it a five-star review. Though the motel is slightly off the "beaten path" (as opposed to all the other hotels/motels in the area which are located adjacent to the I-19 freeway), it is, as others have said, in a quiet neighborhood and thus quite pleasant.

The rooms were excellent, the indoor decor appealing, and the front-desk staff always pleasant (though one young male worker did not know much about the area and to a simple question about directions suggested that we talk to some "old time resident" if we wanted to know our "how to go" answer. He did not, however, suggest where we might find one of these persons). Neither of us are swimmers but the pool looked inviting and welcoming on a hot afternoon of outdoor activities.

The motel fails, however, in one striking way: For whatever reason, the owners have, rather miserably, decided to allow a non-affiliated restaurant to serve as the only place for its guests to get a much-needed breakfast in the morning. We expected to have to go out in the evenings, and we did, but we were floored to find that it was impossible to even find a piece of toast or a glass of orange juice unless one were will to pay up to $8.50 or more for it at what purports to be a French-chef-run locale. The result was that we found ourselves during the three days that we stayed at the Best Western driving each morning to the local McDonalds about a mile or so away to grab something filling.

Another reviewer has already noted that nearly every Best Western in the country now serves some kind of complimentary breakfast. Some are, of course, better than others, but this must be the only member of the chain in the United States that consciously chooses to offer absolutely nothing. That fact would have to rate them a "Zero" if that low a score was possible. So would we stay there again? Probably not. The rooms costs were as high or higher than a comparable room in Tucson and, as a result, I think we would opt for the newer Baymont or somewhere else where it wasn't necessary to get dressed to go eat in the mornings.

“Rooms need attention”

This motel is located in a very quiet, retirement community area. We definetly felt very safe there and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The motel seemed to serve a more higher class crowd. The restaurant served pricey cuisine and recommended reservations. There was no breakfast. It is not geared for average families with children. The pool was large and the hot tub was very nice and one of the largest ones we have ever been in. It was great to relax in under the stars.
Our room could have used some attention. The door had to be slammed hard twice before it would close. The threshold strip to the bathroom was pulling up and would catch on your socks. The coffeepot really needed to be replaced as it was extremely slow and took about 30 min. to make coffee. The ref. made a strange noise, so we unplugged it.
Overall, for such a nice neighborhood, and having such a fancy restaurant on the premises we expected better rooms. We also had requested a room by the pool, but were given an outside room. We have received much better lodging elsewhere for the price we paid.

We've stayed here at least 4-5 times in the past two years and have yet to run into a problem. A basic hotel that is always clean, quiet and affordable. The pool is always a hit with the kids.

We rated it above average due to the quietness and value. The room was large and clean but needed a bit more furniture. The refrigerator was sitting on the floor rather then on a stand (hard to access when you are a senior). The management was extemely cooperative in furnishing additional pillows, towels and guide books. The attached restaurant (not part of the hotel) served a very well prepared lunch..did not have dinner there. The downside is that there was no complimentary breakfast which is unusual for a Best Western.

“Was OK for what we needed it for...”

We had a last minute idea to go check out Lake Patagonia (30-40 min drive)and when looking online for hotels this one came up and was reasonable for what we needed. Rooms were very clean. Would have liked to have stayed on the ground level by the pool. We had 2 dogs and they had no problems with that, $10 per night per dog. Room service avail. but very pricey and not a huge selection. Sunday morn nice continental breakfast considering it's free. Met with some folks that were in town for some serious golfing and they stay here everytime they are down there. Would stay again....
