“A story of pros and cons beyond the website information”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We stayed here in Feb 2013 for spring training for the western ballparks. We chose this due to location compared to the other hotels we were offered with our travel package.

This was an odd place to drive into. Its on a college campus, and very soon you realize this was a military site and barracks. It takes a bit of twisting and turning to make it to the Inn and along the way you may have second thoughts, my wife and I did. But, stick with it and this is actually a very decent place to spend a week.

The front desk was very nice, and even allowed a late check out our last day. The parking is limited, but even using the "far" lot is was a short walk. Access to a full YMCA gym was very important for my wife and a great perk.

And the biggest PRO: The complimentary lobby. We were concerned that not having a free breakfast in our lodging was going to be a extra expense daily. But above the front desk they have a nice little kitchen area with a full refrigerator of complimentary drinks, and snacks. In the morning they have oatmeals and cereals and yogurts which was a great breakfast for us every morning. Having the ability to grabs multiple bottles of water while managing through the dry heat each day was great and actually saved money not stopping at grocery stores and gas stations while driving around. Being able to grab and apple or granola bar night snack for free cannot be understated, or a hot chocolate when the sun goes down and a chill hits the air.

SUMMARY: It's 20 mins to most places we wanted to go to, saved a nice chunk of money every day with the lobby refreshments, and was secure and safe. As long as you don't need the outside to be a looker, its a good place.

Thank you for choosing the Thunderbird Executive Inn and thank you for giving us a try on your recent visit. We're delighted you found many "pros" to staying at Thunderbird, including the lobby lounge, YMCA gym, complimentary bottles of water, and a friendly front desk staff.

Our complimentary pantry offers many grab and go options for breakfast as well as, an evening snack before settling in for a good nights sleep. The YMCA gym is a full-service gym with many options, including a heated outdoor pool. It's these amenities along with our dedicated staff that ensure a great hotel experience. Thank you once again, we look forward to seeing you at Thunderbird in the near future.

Stayed here a total of three nights in the course of a week-long vacation to the area, occupied two different rooms, both in the 300 series. The rooms are clean, décor is very dated. Staff was friendly, the complimentary "snack bar" was a hit with the kids.
Main concern - How anyone is able to sleep with the AC units operating on the roof is beyond me, the noise was incredibly loud!

I had a chance to review the comments that you recently posted and I was concerned to hear about your experience with our hotel. We strive to accommodate our all of our guests and their needs, and I was disappointed to hear about the problem with the AC noise in your guest room that caused you to have little sleep.

I know that does not change your experience but I hope that you can feel confident that we heard your concern and we are working with our facilities team to find a solution. I apologize again for the noise issue, and thank you for taking the time to let me know about it. Without your guest feedback we cannot continue to improve our services. Thank you for choosing the Thunderbird Executive Inn.

I love staying here. The rooms are super clean (immaculate) and the beds are comfortable. I can count on getting a good night's sleep here. Its also very quiet at night so I'm able to do work on my laptop and use their free wireless. They also offer free food (snacks and drinks) located in their main lobby. The staff is friendly and helpful. Thunderbird Executive Inn is always my #1 choice.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newer rooms near the main office. I have stayed here twice and the newer rooms ar...

As with some of the other reviewers here, my wife and I were in the area for Spring Training games. Thunderbird gave us a modest room at a modest price. Fair trade. Plenty of places to eat just a few miles away. Close to Peoria Sports Complex and Mariners/Padres. Free internet and wi-fi, lots of snacks. Checked in around midnight, guy at the desk came outside to help make sure we got from parking (a bit of a ways away) to our room. We'd stay there again, but might want to see if we could get a slightly bigger room - ours had a queen bed plus a typical office-style chair, not conducive to sitting around. Again, as I said, a modest room at a modest (especially for Glendale/Peoria at this time of year) price.

We stayed here two nights, for a Spring training game. Only a few miles from the Ball Park. Not many good restaurants in the immediate walking area, a small one with a lounge on the property but nothing special. You are on a college campus , kind of strange but nevertheless fine. Parking is not convenient, too much lawn and too little parking in front of the hotel. This could be improved. Rooms typical, nice furniture, comfy bed, very clean, good bathroom products. Free Internet, and a big free snack bar that is well stocked 24 hours a day, including juice, soda, and plenty more. This was nice. We would stay there again . The staff was efficient and nice enough but they seemed cold and detached from guests. But they did offer any help you requested. It's a nice place, but keep in mind you are on a private college campus. Price was very reasonable.

My family has traveled to the Phoenix area for the past three years to attend MLB spring training games and have stayed at the Thunderbird every year. We stumbled upon it doing an internet search and fell in love after our first stay. The Inn is actually part of the campus of the Thunderbird School of Global management, so the best way I can describe it is that its like a mini college campus. There are large areas of grass where kids can play, a full sized pool, a "commons" (like a campus cafeteria) with Wolfgang Puck trained chefs, a "pub" that has plenty of televisions and tons of craft beers on tap. The rooms are very large and have a mini fridge and large closet space with security box. Another great amenity is their lounge that has a pool table, tv, computers, and a snack kitchen with coffee, sodas, water, and snacks all part of the price of your stay. I also learned this year that they have a partnership with the YMCA next door for free passes with your stay... can't wait to go back!!!

The watch-word of this place is simple. It's a 2.5 star hotel and that's what you get. I will say, however, that some of the 2.5 star hotels I've stayed at had some signs of wear and tear (rust stains, chipped paint, etc). I will say that Thunderbird was very clean and overall well kept.

It's on the campus of Thunderbird Graduate School of Management. The students were on Spring Break when I was there so it was very quiet. Nice little campus to stroll through. It's similar to the hotel on the campus of schools for visiting parents and alumni.

Both the room, hotel and service I would simply rate as 'decent'. Nothing to rave about and no big complaints, either.

Negatives / issues: There were two issues with the room: a leaking shower hing (that sprayed the entire bathroom with water when I turned it on). They did address that quickly and it was fixed. Also AZ was experiencing record heat and the room got warm even though I had the AC on the lowest setting. They came by and 'fixed' it but that night the same problem returned. Kept waking to a very warm room.

Positives: This hotel is clean, simple and will fulfill your needs. They have a nice little lounge where you can grab free soft drinks, cereal, fruit, snacks, etc and its open 24/7. I've never really seen that. Small fridge in room, which is nice.

Service overall was adequate. Depended on who you talked to. Some staff seemed to truly enjoy their jobs and greeting people, some were just sorta 'there'.

Average, letter Grade C, 5 on a 10 scale. They all describe it. For every negative, a positive. If you're on a budget, it's a good place to go bc the per night rates on rooms were very reasonable. Close to Spring Training baseball, plenty of restaurants, etc.
