“Wow what a great find in Fountain Hills”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2008

Well let me say this was the best B&B/Hotel we have stayed in for price and comfort in Arizona. Having lived in the valley for 5 years we knew this area pretty well. When staying with family in Gilbert we decided it was time for a couple of nights away. We chose this hotel based on price and location. Nestled in the hills of Fountain hills the Inn is a stones throw from North Scottsdale and about 20 minute drive from Downtown. On Check Inn we were greeted and directed to our room, the room is more like a condo, has a patio with table and 2 chairs room was clean, bed comfortable and clean, pillows could do with an upgrade but okay. Air conditioning worked great, bathrroom spacious and very clean. Great TV no plasma but good. Coffee Maker worked good Seattle Best coffee.

A Frys grocery store within walking distance if not to hot also Pei Wei Chinese.

View from Patio was great looked over Eagle Mountain Golf course and Lights of Phoenix. I loved this hotel and location. Paid $55 on Expedia and next night $60 from hotel website. Please stay here you will enjoy,

Loved the large King mini suite! If you want a view, ask for an upper story room. The Inn was quiet when we were there on a Wednesday night, so we had the pool to ourselves; it was open until 11pm. The room we had had a small balcony with a table and two chairs, large bathroom with jacuzzi tub and shower, and a gas fireplace which we didn't use because it was hot outside. The room was clean.

  • Liked — Large room with a view
  • Disliked — It was in the Phoenix area.

Stayed for a week in what is called a luxury suite, but we were won over more by its simple attributes. Spacious, clean, and lovely balcony off the bedroom with transfixing view of the rugged grounds and lights of Scottsdale and Phoenix at night. Cut into the side of a mountain and home to at least one bobcat we saw walking the property, it is less than a mile to a grocery store and right next to the Eagle Mountain golf course. We found the Inn to be a pleasing departure point for all the region has to offer, while maintaining the desert mountain character that makes the region so special. The week was not inexpensive ($259 a night) and there were a couple of issues ... a small pool, and a tiny restaurant serving breakfast only. Not a place for someone seeking a full resort experience, but a great base of operation. Weather was perfect, sunny and mid-80s the whole time.

  • Disliked — Small pool, limited restaurant

We have been visiting this property for 7 years. It used to be named the Southwest Inn at Eagle Mountain, and was affiliated with a lovely property in Sedona, Arizona. About 4-5 years ago, it changed owners. In our opinion, it started to slip a bit (then a lot) under the new management. Previously, the place was spotless. SPOTLESS! Now, it's acceptably clean, but you will not forget that someone else just inhabited your room the night before. We've found hairs, spills, dust, a random wrapper, scribbles, etc. Just the little things that shouldn't happen at a place this expensive.

On our most recent visit, we stayed in the fancier 2-room suite. One of the jets in our jetted tub was broken and had mold growing inside the mouth. The arms on the sofa were worn; nearly thread-bare. There was no explanation on how to use the speaker in the bathroom (you can pipe in music-- or, at least, you used to be able to). The batteries in one of the remotes were dead. The "restaurant" is a joke-- they used to have a GREAT breakfast buffet with a conveyor toaster, fresh fruit, yogurts, little cereal boxes, pastries, packaged waffles, etc. Now, they give you some kind of coupon for a mediocre, overpriced breakfast prepared in-house. The old buffet was one of their highlights; now we just hit Denny's in Fountain Hills instead.

Don't get me wrong, the views are gorgeous, the wood furniture in the rooms is lovely, and the rooms themselves have good "bones". The place just needs some TLC to bring it back up to speed. If you're a first time visitor, you will probably be impressed. As a relative "long-timer", it breaks my heart to see how this property is showing its age more and more.

I have only one real complaint about this place and that relates to the so-called "breakfast" that was included with the package we bought. The buffet-style deal was almost always empty and, upon prompting, the staff would bring out a couple of pieces of bacon or sasage wrapped up in a paper towel and dump it in the serving platter. Same with eggs. Coffee and toast was a real effort to get.

None of this would have been so bad if there were other options available. But this place is quite isolated and any alternative would involve a faily lengthy car ride.

They should either put there heart in this breakfast thing or pack it in altogether.

Excellent Location in the Fountain Hills with far reaching views across the Phoenix Area. We experienced a dramatic Thunderstorm which had us sitting on the terrace watching a free light show! Very nice setting with indigenous plants and cacti creating a good South Western Feel. Very clean and well presented rooms, classy decor in the suites with good quality fixtures and fittings. If noise is an issue for you try for an upstairs suite as we found we could hear the neighbors walking about above us. Very quite otherwise. The pool area and spa tub were a welcome note in the heat of the desert. Pleasant and helpful staff. We enjoyed our stay in September 2007.

Samll, intimate, quiet resort. BEautiful setting on a golf course and on a hill with a great view. Rooms were large with a fireplace and sitting area by fireplace. Walk in shower with strong spray and separate whirlpool tub - very nice!

Pool is a little walk away, by the office. It is small but has a hot tub with an outdoor fireplace. The towels were huge and comfy.

Restaurant only has a few tables and only open for breakfast and lunch. wished for a poolside bar.

Highly recommended.
