“The Village of Elgin Winery”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2007

The two main things against The Village of Elgin Winery are it's delapidated appearance and as the previous two reviewers mentioned, the hospitality at the wine tasting bar, each of the four times I've stopped, was poor. They could do better, and some of their wines are good, but some people will associate the poor presentation with poor quality wine, which is not always the case.

“Skip it...Turn left to Sonoita Vineyards instead..”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2006

I am not sure how this winery stays in business. It looks like a run-down dump that no one bothers to take care of. When my husband and I walked in, the lady behind the counter was helping some other customers but didn't even bother to greet us. Finally she finished with them and let us know that tastings were $1 for 4 tastings. Rather than be helpful in suggesting a series of wines to taste or an order that we should taste them in, she basically just impatiently asked what we wanted to taste. We felt very rushed and she'd even just stand there and stare at us while we tasted. None of the wines were very good anyways and we left without making a purchase. As we stopped to examine the bottling machine that was sitting outside in the rain, we were quite glad we hadn't bought any. While it's unfair to compare any of the Elgin wineries with Napa, at the very least this one could improve its look and its customer service. Just up the road to the west is an excellent winery called Sonoita Vineyards. Head straight there!

“Waste of time!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2006

Turned off the exit for Elgin Wineries 8 miles....
Stopped at an Elgin Winery off to the right...Run down...
Hotter than blazes....Wine spoiled....Swamp cooler a joke.
Fans were running inside.Nitwit server behind the counter....
Nerve of them asking $11.00-$18.00 bottle.
Napa Valley would just laugh...How insulting for wine conneiusseurs.
They call this a winery! A joke! Don't waste your time.
The wine in a box at the grocery store beats this.
No photos necessary!
Go to Napa Valley, CA
