“One of a kind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Truly a dining experience that goes beyond the food! Dishes are unique, presentation is a work of art and delicious! You even receive a thank you card from your server along with chocolates and "designer" water while you wait to get your car from Valet!

“Absolutely amazing experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Kai restaurant is located in the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort in the Gila River Indian Community near Chandler, Arizona.
It is an AAA Five Diamond Award Signature Restaurant, and deserves this high rating.
The food, loosely based on Native American ingredients, is remarkable. We did not have any missteps in the dishes we ordered. All were extremely creative in presentation, and taste.
We savored every morsel. We ordered the salad for our first course and it was delightfully presented as a garden: eggplant and tomato confit represented the soil which was covered with tiny lettuce plantings! The local Crow Dairy feta cheese and delicious spicy sweet pecans, were the accompaniments. The lobster degustation was a trio of treatments: lobster claw with avocado mousse, lobster panna cotta and mesquite bean and with cheesy lobster bits. For our main course, we had buffalo tenderloin. The taste of the buffalo was light and lean and really melted in your mouth. The dessert: chocolate mousse and chocolate ice cream - just the right ending. We were also treated to an amuse to start, a palate cleanser during the meal and chocolate truffles to end.
The service was impeccable with 2 attentive servers for our party of 2. I enjoyed watching a nearby table of 6 being served. Six servers came out with each course and each placed the dishes simultaneously at each guests place.
Can't say enough about such a sublime evening! Expensive, but worth every penny!

This was an experience of a lifetime. I would recommend this restaurant experience to anyone. The attention to detail is impeccable, service extraordinary and the food was a thoroughly tinitilatingly tasty excursion into the unknown. Loved it!

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Ate at Kai last night to celebrate an anniversary and acceptance of a new job. My husband had been wanted to eat here for a while but we held out for a special occasion. Kai did not dissapoint. I agree with Robert V in the other review. Absolutely the best fine dining restaurant in Arizona. We were reminded of our reservation the day before as well as the dress code. Complimentary valet is available. Our server Quenton and his assistant were great and helped guide us through the menu. We wanted to try "The Journey" (a 13 course tasting) however we were planning on driving home about 1.5hrs after dinner so thought we better keep it a bit light. We enjoyed the sea trout for "the birth" course. My husband had the lobster degustation for the second course and we follwed with the Colorado Lamb and Buffalo for the main course. The food tasted absolutely delicious and was perfectly cooked. The utensils were chilled or warmed as appropriate for each dish. We were so full we weren't able to try anything from the dessert menu "the afterlife" but we will be back. When we went to get our car for our long drive home, it was already waiting for us at the entrance with 2 bottles of Voss, a small box of chocolates and a card.

“One of the Best in the United States”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I have always felt that Kai on the Gila Indian Reservation was not only the best fine dining restaurant in Arizona, but also one of the best in the United States. We go to Kai 2 or 3 times a year and each visit is magical. Reservations are essential and the restaurant will call you prior to remind you of both the reservation and dress code. The welcome at the hostess stand and by the staff is very warm.

Once the ice-cold martinis are served, the black clothed waiter will present the menu along with an understanding of how the Pima Indian culture relates to both the food and the presentation. We tend to begin (Kai refers to it as "The Birth") with an incredible salad "that is inspired by the local farmers & children of the Gila Crossing School". Kai does a great job of using ingredients from both the reservation and parts of Arizona. The second course of the dinner is "The Beginning" which I always go for the Lobster Degustation. The sauces used with this course are perfect.

The selection of entrees do not change that frequently, which is just fine. The Grilled Tenderloin of Tribal Buffalo is out-of-this-world. The buffalo, I believe comes from a reservation outside of Arizona. My wife prefers the Saffron Poached Spanish Turbot, but as long as the buffalo is offered my choice will be made ahead of time.

The service is most noteworthy and it has always been perfect whether it has been just the two of us or when we hosted a party of 12 in their private room. Of their two main dining rooms, we prefer the one in the back. We did have a concern with the recent announcement that Executive Chef Michael O'Dowd would be leaving the restaurant (he made it what it is), yet knowing that this is a well managed business, that Kai will not loose it's perfection.
