“Can't say enough good things about this place...or the staff”

Carefree Resort and Villas

I was scouting locations for our company meeting and stayed here in January 2008. While the accomodations were good the staff was so-so. I returned in June 2008 to give them another look see. Well, I found out a new manager took over. OMG! The difference is extremely noticeable and downright amazing.

The staff was courteous, helpful, attentive and ever ready to assist.. I sat in their restaurant and before my server could arrive the manager came over and brought me water. I was dumfounded. I mean management....serving customers??!! Well, it just got better from there. Every single person I encountered there went out of their way to make me feel important and wanted...even when I called at 2am lost and Kimberely was warm, and calming and helped me find my way back. Usually you get that kind of treatment only if you have money....and I don't.

The Villas are wonderful, and if you like a jacuzzi bathtub you will LOVE these. There is a full kitchen, washer/dryer, DVD player and furnishings like an upscale home.

The Spa was terrific. Kelly did the most wonderful facial I have ever had, and she was funny to boot.

If you are looking for someplace to hold your next gathering.....or want to run away from home for the weekend...or just want to get away for a romantic evening.....the Carefree Resort and Villas if the place to go.

I will definitely be back.

The first clue should have been the bellman that wouldn't let me touch the luggage carts and insisted on "helping" us.

The next clue should have been the rodent that was living in the refrigerator.

The final insult was the crazy gift shop lady selling sun tan lotion at $11 a bottle that was made by two poor Arizona doctors who are just trying to make a buck.

Oh my lord the heat has gotten to some people.

Avoid this place. Trust me when I tell you that you have the money and the common sense to stay somewhere else.

Tony:

Forgive me for the delay in responding but I wanted to obtain more details from you regarding your comments. We care about all of our guests very much and I would like to address your concerns.

Bellman gratuities are part of our daily charges so that is why my staff aggressively assists all of our guests - they are simply earning their money and you are not expected to tip, however, I apologize if they made you feel uncomfortable. That is not the intent. We have a large resort that is spread out and we train our bellman to escort guests to their room so they can orient you to the resort and facilities along the way.

The Gift Shop is not operated by my hotel staff which is why the entrance is located outside the hotel vs. inside like it would be at most resorts - as an option, we offer sundry items in the resort owned and managed Spa. Based on your feedback, I will pass this information along to the owners and see if something can be done to change the arrangement. Thank you.

Regarding the "rodent" - my goodness. There is nothing to say. We have an internal process for guests to report any assistance they need from us while guests in our hotel (dialing 5555) and in looking back at the log, I did not see any records to trace. I read the log every morning and had I seen your concern, I would have called you personally. The villas are privately owned and I have no idea how a rodent got inside the refrigerator and am apalled that you experienced something like this.

I am not sure where you live, but I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you personally and come to an amicable way of beginning to earn your trust back.

My resort and my employees DO care about our customers and I am so sorry if you left with a feeling that contradicts that. We will make it right.

Thank you for offering your feedback.

Oklahoma City

I found this hotel through the TripAdvisor web site. We stayed there en route to the Grand Canyon. I thought Carefree was a little closer to downtown Phoenix, so we wound up driving a bit further than I would have preferred. However, the hotel was lovely.

We had a HUGE room with two queen beds, desk, & balcony. There was a beautiful pool and outdoor patio with a fire pit that I would have enjoyed if we had stayed longer. The price I got through a travel web site was cheap ($75).

My husband and I plan to go back to Carefree one day when our kids are a little older and stay here for a few days of R&R. There is on site dining and we saw golf courses nearby. It was a lovely little spot in the middle of the desert.

“A hidden gem!”

Carefree Resort and Villas

Apr 26, 2008

We wanted some time out of the city and this was perfect. We stayed in there newly renovated rooms next ot the lobby and the deco was taylored to the area; cowboys and indians! What a treat. In the evenings we sat at the campfire and made smores. Relaxing enviroment at the Saloon with lots of activties to be entertained with: pool, darts, etc. The Lariat restaurant was amazing. We were informed that theyhad a new menu. We had the duck, pork and chili pasta. All are highly recommened and there are plenty to choose from for kids too. My son loved there pizzas. Also, try the bluebeery cobbler or Ice cream sundae; the sundae was very unique. We are going back in the summer for another get away. The town of Carefree and Cave Creek are fun places to vist as well; just a few mintues away from the hotel. Catch the hotel shuttle.

I have stayed at many resorts in Arizona, and feel that Carefree Resort & Villas should change their name. Carefree Hotel or Motel would be more appropriate. I only stayed their one night to attend a wedding in Cave Creek, AZ. The property is old, but somewhat charming (not worth the price). The staff was not very helpful or courteous. I even had a valet snap at me for his mistake. I chose Carefree Resort for its location. If I had the choice again, I would have spent a little more to stay at the Boulders or another property in Scottsdale.
