“Great time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Very pretty resort, friendly staff. Loved the free shuttle to and from town, only a phone call away. Room was nice and food was great. Perfect "staycation" for my friends and I. Actually seemed cooler there than Phoenix by just enough to allow walking around the resort in the morning and evening (even in July). I've stayed in many resorts in the valley and I would definitely recommend this resort for couples or girlfriends getaway.

We booked this resort through ICE, which we will never do again. We prepaid $1158 for 6 nights. When we checked out, there was an additional $65.58 "resort fee" which we were not informed of beforehand. When questioned to desk clerk said that in order to give a third party (ICE) a good price that they had to add the $10.93 per day to get it back up to their original price. Isn't this bait and switch?

Secondly, on the third day the cleaning staff removed all of our recyclables which we were storing to take home from our room. I have never heard of cleaning staff removing things from the room that were not in the wastebaskets. When I complained the head of cleaning merely said that the staff recycled too. There were other things in those bags. In addition, after my complaints, they never cleaned the room again (3 days).

Lastly, we tried the restaurant for breakfast once. There was one other family in the dining room, it took 50 minutes to get our meals and one of them was stone cold and had to be returned. All in all, breakfast too 1 hours and 45 minutes for scrambled eggs and sausage.

This resort was built in 1962 and looks like it - the rooms were dark (painted dark grey) and fairly small - if we hadn't had 3 connecting rooms we would have felt very cramped.

We had stayed at this resort with family from out of town in years past with good results. In this very recent case we decided on a short 3 day getaway with some local people. A nightmare!! starting with a verbose/indifferent check in person to painting and drilling throughout the hallway and directly outside our room beginning at 8 am. We talked to the manager at checkout as we decided to forgo the last day stay. He replied he was "unaware" of any work being done and did not take us up on our offer to walk over to "look see" on what was occuring. It appears that this resorts service has deteriated greatly and we will no longer be returning as there are far better options in this area for a quality get away.

As foreign visitor you feel treated like a third-class-guest. You get a room right beside the supliers entrance although there where a plenty of available rooms. Why? It seems that the staff does not have any education. That is a pity. The resort itself is nice, but if you get such a room, you are "not amused". We complaint and should get an upgrade in a suite. We were happy to hear this. But this was from very short duration. The bell boy could not find the key for the the second room which belongs to the suite. So we got 1/2 a suite without table or chairs for apparel e.g. Tired of complaining and moving we accepted. We wanted to have vacation not hotel inspectation trip! This handling is unimagable n Europe!

Stayed for a conference with not much time for recreation, but found the room to be very comfortable. They gave us an upgrade to one of the rooms across from the main hotel which was much quieter and right next to a smaller pool that nobody every used which was nice. Everything was clean and comfortable and the staff was pleasant enough, though I wouldn't say particularly "special." Charged $20 for an hour later check out, and were very strict - knocking on our door at EXACTLY that time and shooing us out of the room which I didn't think was quite necessary (there was a large conference checking out that day so they had plenty to keep the housekeepers busy - got the feeling they did it just to make a "point"). Most resorts are a little looser and more friendly about extending checkout a bit. Overall the stay was pleasant.

Room Tip: See if you can get an upgrade to one of the rooms across the entrance drive from the main hotel. Muc...

A nice relaxing place to stay when in Carefree. Enjoyed the fire pit and hot tub at night, although it would be nice if they kept it open a little later, and the security guard is pretty strict about it. The pool is nice sized with plenty of lounging room during the day. The transportation they arranged for us to take into town for dinner was great! A very nice retired gentlemen who served as our personal taxi for the night, great personal touch! Would stay here again if I returned to the area.

Beautiful location and property layout. I traveled with my dog; and everyone went out of there way to make us both feel safe and welcomed. The entire experience was carefree. We will certainly make a return trip. Maria C
