My wife and I had our much anticipated first visit to The Boulders in cooler than normal weather so the daily prepared fireplace was welcome. Our casita was very spacious but the TV was too old and small and a larger flat screen TV is needed.
Our bathroom/closet space was ample but the shower is much too small, the hot water is slow to arrive, and the two handle control is imprecise. Also, the two basins and large mirror are much too far away from the user to be comfortable.
The oversized bed and down comforter were great.
Internet access in the room is pricey and at the lodge is cramped and not even complementary.
Food and wine quality and service at Latilla Restaurant was excellent on the one evening we dined there. The Discovery Lounge at the Lodge was not well serviced and some of the advertised wines were "not available until the next delivery". Our last night lounge visit was redeemed by a live pianist/vocalist on a Thursday night who made two "non dancers" feel the urge to dance!
A real dining treat is The Spotted Donkey Cantina in the on resort Pedregal shopping and convention center.
Massages at The Golden Door Spa were on time and wonderful, as were the in door and outdoor pools and amenities.
We played both golf courses which were in excellent condition and very uncrowded. The pro shop and cart staff were friendly and helpful. We saw a roadrunner, a coyote, many bunnies and birds on the courses. The courses were tough but not the exaggerated "target" types we dislike. The practice range was well equipped. Rates are $240 per person for 18 holes.
Staff was most attentive and helpful except occasionally in the lounge. We easily walked 5-10 minutes to all resort facilities but prompt complementary golf cart shuttles are available
Overall, incredible natural beauty with a resort which fits in with its surroundings but needs updating, particularly with daily rates of $400-500.
