“BEST HOTEL IN WRANGELL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Perfect location right on the water with a delicious restaurant. The servings are huge.
The rooms are dated perhaps with a recent facelift sill with some room for upgrades such as solid core doors new locking mechanisms soundproofing. Basically it's and old building. Great coffee bar in the lobby.

Room Tip: Ask for harbor side.

We stayed here for three nights on a visit to Wrangell to view bears at Anan Creek and do some hiking (the boardwalk trail to the High Country Shelter is great). The location here can't be beat, it's close to the ferry terminal (maybe 5 minutes walk) and to the (small) downtown, with truly astonishing views over the ocean at sunset. Paying extra for a sea view is really worth it here. The staff were friendly, and although the rooms are a little tired they're quite large and comfortable. The internet was good speed. The only negative we found was that the walls are on the thin side - you can hear your neighbors talking at pretty normal volume through the walls. Not a problem for us, but if you're a light sleeper who likes to turn in early it might be an issue.

One caveat: the hotel was for sale as of summer 2013. The great location won't change, but other things might by the time you visit.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms on the upper floor have a really great view. Worth the extra in my opinion.

The people in Wrangell are quite nice and the Stikine Inn is the only real hotel in the area. It is clean, a little pricey for what you get, but there aren't a lot of choices. The weather was beautiful when I was there and the rooms were quite hot at night. Thankfully they had screens on the windows so the mosquitos couldn't get in. The deck is a nice setting and the food was good. The Stikine is right next to the dock, so can get noisy and crowded when a cruise ship docks.

Room Tip: Ask for a view room, the ones on the parking lot side on the bottom floor are a little dark and look...

When you go to a remote area in Alaska, you have to keep an open mind. Picturesque location, easy access to Leconte Glacier, AnnAnn bear observatory, easy hiking, makes up for anything lacking. At Stikine, staff is helpful, manager is warm and chatty and foods okay. Rooms are also clean and user friendly with a nice view of the Stikine river. Definitely worth going to this untapped beautiful area in Alaska. Wifi is cheap. Make sure you book tours early or before you get there, tours fill up easy as small capacity. Visitors cannot expect 5* in Wrangell, or for the most part in the state of Alaska, and this is a nice place to go to.

Room Tip: Ask for room with view of the water

Stikine Inn was very welcoming after being on the M/V Columbia for three days, to stay in a lovely hotel bed at the Stikine Inn on the Waterfront in Wrangell, a five minute walk from the ferry terminal. Clean, large, quite room with a town/mountain view on the first floor. Two queen size beds, en-suite bathroom tv, fridge ,microwave and coffee machine. Two minute walk into town if you can call it that as its very small, supermarket, laundry, café and a couple of bars. Eat in the restaurant as there is NO WHERE ELSE!. Massive portions, very reasonably priced, fresh food extensive menu with Alaskan Summer beer, outdoor decking area if the weather is fine. No breakfast, but a new coffee shop has just opened in the reception area with great coffee and croissants. Wrangell is close to nature and felt fresh and unexplored.

Room Tip: No Lift and no one to take your luggage up to all of the rooms.

My wife and I spent three wonderful days at this hotel. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The property itself, while older, is very well kept and clean. As others have noted it is and easy walk from the Alaska Marine Highway ferry, as well as to/from exploring adventures by boat!
The restaurant at the hotel is remarkably good. We had several meals there including their New England clam chowder, grilled halibut fish tacos (a large amount of fish!!), assorted salads, all excellently prepared and served. Our thanks especially to Augie, and Cheryl for their friendliness and help.

Room Tip: Pay a little more and get a room on the water side. The views and sunsets are more than worth it.

The Stikine Inn is a great place to stay in Wrangall. It is an easy walk from the ferry. And it is along the water and has a great restaurant too. We spent two nights at the Inn and had a great stay. Our room had two queen beds, a microwave and refrigerator. We went to the grocery store for some breakfast foods as the Inn does not offer complimentary breakfast. Very attentive staff and clean bright rooms.
