After reading the earlier reviews on TripAdvisor, we were disappointed in the Best Western Lake Lucille. The hotel is older and bordering on shabby; a renewal is drastically overdue. The lobby is cozy with a great fireplace, as another reviewer mentioned, but it is also dark and cluttered. Our room was reasonably clean, though not spotless, but it was also past its prime in decor and funtionality. Internet access was slow. The biggest asset for this small hotel is its location, away from the highway and nestled on the edge of a lovely small lake.
We tried to eat in the restaurant, but the room was extremely hot (be warned; no air conditioning) and service was non-existent. After waiting about 15 minutes to be seated in a half-empty restuarant, we left and complained to the hotel manager. He was a perfect gentleman and handled the situation with grace. He promptly seated us on the tavern deck and assigned one of the bar waitresses to us. I cannot speak highly enough of the manager or of the bar waitress who took care of us. The meal, alas, was only average.
Were I to pass through Wasilla again, I would thoroughly investigate other lodging options. However, I would also stay at the Lake Lucille again if none of the others struck my eye. It wasn't great, but the service by the manager made up for its shortcomings.
