A great position overlooking a lake with the hotel grounds running down to the water. The rooms on the lake side have balconies. There are suites which are very spacious with two balconies. The restaurant was closed for renovation as were some of the rooms.

If visiting the Anchorage area this is a peaceful place to stay and a forty minute drive into Anchorage.
All normal facilities were available, and will be a good place to stop for a few days once the alterations are complete!

“Won't stay there again”

Best Western Lake Lucille Inn

We booked a jacuzzi suite w/ a view of the lake. The room was supposed to have a microwave and mini fridge but to our surprise ours did not have the microwave. The jacuzzi was dreadful. It may very well have been the first jacuzzi tub ever made. It was missing buttons and was very dirty. Even the caulking around it was cracked and showing signs of black mold. After calling the front desk to complain, I was told, "sorry there are no other rooms available.” Funny thing, there were only 4 cars including ours in the entire lot.

I ended up wiping the tub down the best I could and filling it up with water (took about 45 mins), I turned the jets on and noticed a bunch of brown scummy chunks floating in the water. I emptied the tub, rinsed everything down again and refilled. Unbelievably, there was PLENTY of hot water to do this 3 times. Unfortunately, the more I ran the jets, the more brown hunks, of whatever it was, were floating in the water. Needless to say, there was no way I was getting in it.

One other interesting thing, when I originally called this hotel to make a reservation I asked for the government rate and was immediately told, "We never discount our rooms and certainly not our suites!" I found that a bit odd since I have never run into that before, so I went directly to Best Western's website to check the rates there. I did get a government rate through the site, no problem.

I was not impressed with anything other than the fact they had an endless supply of hot water. I will NEVER again stay at this hotel! I will travel to Anchorage and stay at the Sheraton instead. At least that way I am guaranteed a great hotel, fabulous food, impeccable service, as well as clean and comfortable -- and it will cost less than this place.

“Adequate hotel”

When I book Best Westerns in the US, it is generally because I am looking for an acceptable, moderately-priced hotel with the convenience of online reservations and cancellation and the fairly liberal cancellation policies of a chain. Within those parameters, I usually get what I’m expecting, more or less. Seldom do I have great kudos for a BW, but most of the time I don’t find an unbearable room. My experience with a number of BWs in Alaska, including the BW Lake Lucille, was typical. We spent one night there on the way to Denali/Fairbanks and another night returning south a few days later. This hotel is rated as one of – if not THE – best motels in town, but it is a small town and it is Alaska, so don’t get too excited. The hotel is clean, adequate, and on a lake, which makes for nice views if you have a room on the back. We wanted a queen and as best we could tell, all the queens were on the front and the double/doubles were on the back. So we settled for a parking lot view. Hotel a bit dark and drab but rooms reasonably-sized; however, the one we had on the way up was noticeably larger than the one on the return trip. More expensive than it would be in the lower 48, but not bad for Alaska. Hotel restaurant rated as one of the better ones in town, and it was okay. (“Okay” was about the best you could hope for outside Fairbanks, Anchorage, and maybe a couple of restaurants in Homer and Seward.)

just stayed 2 nites for a conference, 2 dbl beds, on the lake, nice view, beds are hard, and room needs redecorating. good maid service, and good food in huge glass room on the lake, but prices for food are high for all meals. nice staff. good meeting rooms. wifi thru out the hotel. free parking too. look for bargain rates.

“Average Hotel, Great Manager”

After reading the earlier reviews on TripAdvisor, we were disappointed in the Best Western Lake Lucille. The hotel is older and bordering on shabby; a renewal is drastically overdue. The lobby is cozy with a great fireplace, as another reviewer mentioned, but it is also dark and cluttered. Our room was reasonably clean, though not spotless, but it was also past its prime in decor and funtionality. Internet access was slow. The biggest asset for this small hotel is its location, away from the highway and nestled on the edge of a lovely small lake.

We tried to eat in the restaurant, but the room was extremely hot (be warned; no air conditioning) and service was non-existent. After waiting about 15 minutes to be seated in a half-empty restuarant, we left and complained to the hotel manager. He was a perfect gentleman and handled the situation with grace. He promptly seated us on the tavern deck and assigned one of the bar waitresses to us. I cannot speak highly enough of the manager or of the bar waitress who took care of us. The meal, alas, was only average.

Were I to pass through Wasilla again, I would thoroughly investigate other lodging options. However, I would also stay at the Lake Lucille again if none of the others struck my eye. It wasn't great, but the service by the manager made up for its shortcomings.
