Description: The Fat mermaid sits on the waterfront with a great view of the harbor and mountains. Chef Joel Brown has a fresh and innovative way to create seafood dishes that everyone enjoys and appreciates. We have a love for preparing great pizzas, burgers, steaks and pasta from scratch. We also produce gluten free, healthy and vegan items. Our bar host spirits and over 15 different craft beers on tap.

“Try their wood room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

Food was tasty and service was good. Know that a bunch of kids come to Alaska from all over and work the summers there. So each restaurant will have one or two kids that are a little green. Standard pricing compared to the rest of Valdez (which is expensive). If you're cold, sit in the room to the far left, lined with wood and a wood burning stove. Very cozy, reminded me of growing up with a wood stove in our living room. Great view of the harbor.

“Do not waste your time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Service is a joke, got tired of waiting for coffee that morning (20 minutes of sitting there) even after hailing the wait staff. Got up and left.

“Great Breakfast Buffet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

Our land tour guide(John Hall's) recommended this place for breakfast (July 22,2012). We went there and had a great buffet. I really enjoyed the Pancake casserole that morning, it was a great idea. I have tried to find a recipe like it and have not. Hope you would be willing to share it. If we ever travel to Alaska again I would definitely stop by. Enjoyed the nice hospitality we were given.

“Not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

I am generally one who finds the positive qualities about any business; but I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The clam chowder was the worst I've ever had - kind of like flavorless paste and the rest of the lunch was similar. Service was spotty with lots of time spent visiting among the staff. There may not be a lot of choices in Valdez, but I would try something different.

“Unique & fun, not just by Valdez standards”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I just did a over night trip in Valdez and stopped at this place three times. The first time was for lunch. Salads were fresh and we highley recommend the goat cheese with marinara. It comes with homemade chips that are delicious. We ate dinner somewhere else but found ourselves back here for some drinks. Our lunch waiter was out bartender and he was great to talk with. Lots of the right beers on tap. They even had someone playing live Hawaiian music! Valdez is limited on breakfast options. Our hotel recommended the Fat Mermaid and they did not let us down. Everything is priced right for the location.
