“Great Cabins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2008

We stayed here twice during our trip. Once on the way to the Yukon, then again on the way back. Great little cabins. Nice decor. Clean. Wonderful breakfast and friendly staff. The owner of the establishment lives on the premises and is delightful. We hope to visit Alaska again and will definately stay here.
There are only a few cabins, so make your reservations in advance!

The Burnt Paw and Cabins is located along the Alaska Highway half way between Anchorage and Whitehorse Yukon. If you are planning to drive between these two points, it makes sense to stop. I was glad I did. The cabins are rustic on the outside complete with sods roofs. However once you are inside, you have all the amenities of a luxury hotel but not the price of one. My favorite part of this experience is the themed rooms each decorated with the room's theme. I stayed there two nights staying in the Prospector and Angler. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and I must say I was more than satisfied with the selection. The staff prepare your breakfast fresh for you so you need not worry about eating food that sits under a heat lamp. In addition, you have an ample choice of what to eat and how much to eat. It is comforting to know such establishments exsist where customer first still applies. If you ever find yourself travelling along the Alaska Highway and end up in Tok, stop in and pay the Burnt Paw and Cabins a visit.

Attractive, clean, and comfortable cabins-- rustic on the outside but modern on the inside (including television, stall shower, double sinks, and table and chairs ), with Alaskan themed decor. (There's no fridge in the room, but the owner let us use the freezer in the storage room.) The property includes lots of nice touches, like a dog kennel with puppies, a miniature mining mill, old-fashioned porch swings, a great gift shop, etc. Our daughter was thrilled with the puppies and spent a while playing with them! For families with kids, there's also a playground across the street. Breakfast is fine-- waffles, hot and cold cereals, fruit, toast, etc. Definitely a pleasant experience, and probably one of the nicer places to stay in Tok.

On our cross country trip starting in Anchorage. We decided that Tok was a perfect stopping point for the night before crossing into Canada. Wow were we right. We got Cabin #5 (I think) they kept calling it the "new cabin". It has two queen beds very plush and cozy comforters. A small sitting area, nice wash basin and very small bathroom with only a stand up shower, but we didn't mind. The cabin was warm and wonderful and it was nice that we did not hear noise from neighboring cabins or the road. The sod roofs are amazing as well. Full satellite tv if you wish. No fridge but they will provide ice if you need it. Breakfast was included in the am, but it was very basic all carbs and nothing else. Not really a complaint but just an observation. The owners really have an adorable place here, and we paid under $100/night. A gem. Stay here and enjoy!

  • Liked — unique hand made cabins with personal touches.
  • Disliked — Breakfast was dull, but adequate.

I spent a few months in tok, what I discovered is that you don't accept alaska, it accpets you, I met the owners of the burnt paw gift shop/cabins. Bill and Nancy, they are wonderful people, she is a lot of fun, and very friendly, he is a charmer. He was in the very first iditerod, and after suffering for 3 days along the trail, with food poisoning, he managed to finish 11, this is pretty remarkable. I did meet some of thier employees, who were not as friendly, nor did they seem to enjoy meeting people as much as the owners, i feel that if you get to pass thru tok, one stop not to be missed is the burnt paw.
