“Great experience..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

This was a wonderful experience after driving for hours and hours without any decent hotels or civilization around. The staff was more than accomodating and friendly, the rooms cozy, clean and cute. I drove from Florida to Alaska staying in several hotels along the way and even the shampoo was of good quality. If I were ever in that area again I would surely go back, however, I doubt I will ever get that chance. I would highly recommend this place for anyone else to stay at and experience.

Thank you for the very nice recommendation. It was nice visiting with you. Even though this was a one time trip your memories of Alaska will be there forever.

We apologize for taking so long to write this but doubt if the rating has changed since our visit. Burnt Paw/Cabins Outback, owned by Bill and Nancy Arpino, is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Alaska. Located in Tok, on the Alaska Highway (Alcan) about 90 miles west of the Canadian Border, they have eight cute, very clean cabins and a large gift shop. The cabins are decorated in an Alaska décor and have refrigerators, microwaves, etc, items you would find in a larger b&b/motel/hotel in big cities. They offer a complementary breakfast every morning of waffles, cereal, muffins, etc to their guests.
Bill and Nancy are wonderful, personable hosts. Bill, an l973 Iditarod finisher, is an encyclopedia of information of the area. Bill can tell you almost anything you want to know about Alaska and Nancy runs the gift shop. The gift shop is large and offers everything from clothing to souvenirs, snacks and more. We found their prices to be in line with gifts shops in Anchorage and in some cases better. They will ship any purchases for you. We spent three nights there and if ever visiting Alaska, will do so again.

Have traveled through Tok numerous times and always stay in the Cabins Out Back. The themed cabins are delightful and always neat and clean. Very nice breakfast room and breakfast. Waffles made to order. One of the few places in Tok that is open all year.

In a town with very few accommodations (especially in the shoulder seasons) I found that this was a great place to spend the night on our way to Anchorage. We came in mid April so the town was still mostly shut down. The cabins were very modern and clean, nicely furnished and they even had satellite tv which was nice. The breakfast was good, very laid back and made to order. I recommend to all my seasonal traveler friends on their way up North to stop over at the Burnt Paw.

Spent three days there last July on our Alaska vacation. The cabins were very clean and well appointed. The breakfast was good and everyone made sure we were welcome. While staying over we visited Chicken a fun place to go,

Room Tip: Do not miss a breakfast at the White Horse restaurant nearby.

During our trip in August 2012 we stopped in the town of Tok 92 miles from the Canadian border along the famous ALASKA HIGHWAY and after reading the comments on Trip we booked a cabin with green grass growing on the roof!! Very good choice! The cabin was small for the three of us – it was the last one available! – but clean and comfy. Good breakfast with homemade waffles and pancakes, eggs, coffee, fruit, etc... served in the back of the gift shop/reception area where we bought a nice jacket made in Alaska. Free WiFi outside the cabin but was difficult to connect. The owner was friendly. Recommended!

Cold and dark outside, but our little cabins were very cozy and quiet. And the owner prepared a great breakfast of waffles and jam, among other items, with plenty of hot coffee. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Iditarod" because that is their pet cabin. Our co-traveler stayed in t...
