“Good Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

This was the second time we visited this hotel. Again we had a great holiday, with good food (all day long), great weather, nice people (barmans) and a lot of fun. One pool is heaten (around 26 degrees) not always even nice, but the other pool is better do cool down. This year the animation wasn't that great (only looking to italian people), but the other year the animation was also great. When you have some comment, you just have to say it and they will fix it. They come every moment to ask if you want something to drink and the poolbarman brought our drinks to our place, great service! When we were there (in may) there was many time a black sign at the beach, which means you can't go snorkling, but the hotel can't help the weather, so this is not a complain for the hotel!

Just a great holiday

Spent a week here in April and it was one of the most relaxing chilled week I have ever spent. As other reviewers have stated yes the rooms could do with a lick of paint, but they were very clean and comfortable. Lovely large walk in shower and there was always plenty of hot water.
The staff at the hotel are so friendly and helpful they really make the hotel. Everyone from the cleaners, gardeners, waiters to the manager always make a point of speaking to you. The grounds, public areas and the pools are spotlessly clean. As for the food there was a wide selection of food at every meal, yes some days were better than others, but I can't see how anyone would go hungry.
I loved the adult only section of the beach, it was so quiet the most people I counted on there was 11 bliss ! As you can imagine there was no need to get up at dawn to reserve a sunbed. There is even a bar just a few steps away to get a drink, which also serves snacks through out the day. If you want to have a dip in the crystal water you will need reef shoes as it is not possible without them due to the coral. However, it is worth venturing in the sea as there is an amazing amount of beautiful coloured fish even in the shallow water.
If I was looking for a chilled relaxing week in the sun I would have no hesitation to return to this little gem,

From the reviews left here, we were in two minds about what the resort was going to be like. We've been home long enough to take our rose tinted specs off and still look back with fond memories! Many reviewers talk about the décor. Without doubt it could do with the odd lick of paint, but that aside there is not much else I'd change about the resort. It does not make the place dirty - far from it. Our room was kept very clean by our friendly room cleaner Mohammed (bar a small amount of dust on the top shelf of the wardrobe) who, despite having limited English, was exceptionally friendly, trustworthy, always greeted us with a smile and happy to help. He even came out to wave the coach back to the airport off on our last day! In fact all the staff we met were very friendly and hard working, making for a very pleasant stay. The two pools are not huge so I guess they could get busy in the Summer, but for our stay were perfectly ample and we never had to fight or rush down early for a sunbed. The seasonally heated pool is an absolute delight! The resort has it's own beach and a jetty (although the Resta Grand hotel next door also use it) which is definitely worth checking out with your snorkel. Unfortunately it was closed much of the time of our visit due to strong winds, but when we did get to go in we were taken aback by the beautiful coral on our doorstep - much of it in better condition and as, if not more, impressive than some of the locations we visited on our dedicated snorkelling boat trips from Port Ghalib. Also a huge number and variety of fish to see.

Another thing that many people mention is the food. I am a pretty fussy eater but never went without a full plate (or seconds!). The quality is not amazing but for a buffet there is a wide selection and the chefs try to put fresh stuff out as soon as the old stuff is gone. There is certainly nothing wrong with the food itself and we both enjoyed all our meals in the Fontana restaurant. Another nice touch is the evening BBQ on the terrace where each night a different dish - things like lamb kebab, steak etc - is cooked. The girlfriend has a sweet tooth and could hardly contain herself when she saw the wide array of pastries and cake on offer with all meals! There is also an Italian restaurant that serves large portions for a very reasonable price. We were the only ones in there so were a bit confused on how it worked at first. Simply take a seat at a table inside and they will come to take your order. Sounds so obvious now with hindsight!

Overall we had a most enjoyable stay at the resort and were surprised to hear we were the last week of Thomson using the Reef resort (they are carrying on using the Grand resort next door). If we return to Marsa Alam we would probably not even bother to look elsewhere. The Resta Reef resort also rewards repeat visitors. For the sake of the fantastic staff and continued trading of the resort, I sincerely hope Thomson return to using Resta Reef or another British travel agency begin using them.

The only thing we'd change is the bed, but this is probably more to do with the fact my girlfriend and I are used to memory foam mattresses at home. Size wise you certainly can't complain. During our visit there was a rare thunder and rain storm and some water did get into the bedroom area, but with all surfaces raised off the ground there was no damage and the cleaning staff were on scene within 10-15mins and did a fantastic job of mopping up the water. The air conditioning also didn't seem to work on our first day, but they sent an engineer to us and it was fixed and ready the next day. Can't fault the service given in this hotel at all!
