Stayed here for a week in the heat of August. Hotel is new, and as such is to a very good standard throughout. Rooms were spacious and had good AC (which was needed!). The clientelle is very European, with a large amount of Italians (prob about 20% Brits)
Positves :
- Just a 5-10 airport transfer (you can't hear or see the planes coming in)
- Long jetty taking you out to the house reef which could keep you occupied for hours (espeically at high tide so you can get over the reef to the drop-off)
- The A La Carte restaurant was definately worth a visit. Cost about £16 each for a three course meal (AI drinks included). Made a really nice change from the buffet restaurant (which we were getting a bit tired of)
- As the hotel is in the middle of a desert you can really get away from things (if that's what you like). The new Port Ghalib resort (1 mile away) will be a big attraction in a year or two though - bringing loads of people to the vicinity inc bars / restaurants etc.
Negatives:
- Food was dissappointing. Yes it was varied with a theme night every night, but it was very 'samey' and very bland. The Indian curry night was a let-down, it was like eating beef caserole or shepherds pie!
- No waiters serving drinks in the restaurant - you have to go to a drink's station to get a drink. Quite often they ran out of glasses.
- ATM and internet always seemed broken down
All in all we enjoyed this hotel. It definately is NOT a 5 star hotel. When has a 5 star hotel served drinks in plastic cups or doesn't have waiter service ;-) This is something you come to expect in Egypt though. If the food improved then this hotel would be spot-on. Would we return? We would, more likely if we could get a cheap deal though.
