I have just returned from visiting this hotel on the 23rd July for one week. I went on holiday with a friend as an escape from work and stresses. I had read that the area was quiet, however this is an understatement completely! The hotel is just 10 minutes from the airport which was well appreciated after a delay at the airport and the transfer issues. The hotel itself is lovely, clean and well staffed. We arrived at the hotel having discovered one of our suitcases was missing, nightmare for girls all round! We asked the hotel reception staff if they could offer us any help, for example take us to a shop to buy some clothes, they were rude and arrogant saying there was only the hotel shop which on our investigation should nothing but fake designer t-shirts and bags and belly dancing dresses, we bought a very shoddy bikini for 15 pounds and a tube of toothpaste for 5.50!!! we concluded we would have to just make do! Later in the week when the case was delivered to the airport from Hurgarda Airport we were sent to collect it at a cost of 35 pounds in the hotel taxi which appeared to serve most of the local area, no other taxi was available. The hotel takes the money for the taxi and pay the driver a pittance. The airport staff treated us like terrorists leaving an armed guard with us and barking orders at us. We later discovered from another rep that we should NEVER have been sent to the airport without our rep or a member of staff from the hotel, neither of them cared less!
As for the hotel itself, we complained after 4 days to the hotel manager that we felt that the hotel staff were being exceptionally rude to us and we believed this to be because we were both girls, we were given the impression we shouldn’t be out without a man! The manager was wonderful and spoke to the staff and there were some changes but not an overall change.
The food in the hotel is repetitive with a couple of themed evenings which are interesting !
The hotels entertainment is exceptionally poor with a man who plays keyboard and sings badly and encourages even worse singers to have a go ! Couple of shows with a handful of guests which were poor quality and about 45 minutes in length.
The local town is beautiful but even in peak season it was a ghost town, its also very expensive and you will end up paying more then you would in the UK. TGI Fridays, Costa and pizza hut a couple of shops and that’s about it. As pretty as it is you feel intimidated by the fact there are more staff there then customers.
When people say there is nothing there please take this literally, we went out on two day trips which were at least 2/3 hour drives just to get to places, there really is nothing there, great for relaxing by the pool but going to Egypt and not seeing anything but a pretty port and a hotel is disappointing, the only way to explore further like we did was to pay for trips out which were expensive.
Like other visitors in 10 years I would imagine it would be fantastic, they are very much trying to keep this area as an exclusive resort, however I know I wont be visiting again!
