“Fantastic Holiday”

Akassia Swiss Resort

May 2, 2008

Stayed at the Akassia for 2 weeks with my wife and 2 kids one 10 yrs and one is 19 months from the 16th -30th April 2008.
Staff were very friendly always willing to help.Rooms were very clean and spacious with all creature comforts.Hotel grounds are very pretty with all different flower beds layed out throughout the grounds all labelled up if your into that sort of thing.Swimming pools were very clean and many of them.Beach is lovely but possibly not enough beds when hotel is full.
On a red flag day you cant snorkell over the house reef or enter the water from the jetties but if this happens the hotel lays on a bus service to take you to another bay to snorkel twice a day free of charge.
We was worried about the food after reading other reports but dont be ,there is something for every taste with a different theme night every night,Clarridges it is not but the standard is still very good. There are 2 other restaurants but you pay a supplement for these. The a la carte was nice but didn't try the seafood restaurant. The hotel is massive so you can find noisey activity or peace and quiet which ever you desire. If you need an honest answer to any queries you may have just e-mail and I will respond.
On the whole a great holiday .

“Almost there.”

Akassia Swiss Resort

Just returned from there and the hotel was very good and the staff were very friendly. We had a suite although there was only my wife and I, one double, two large singles and a TV for each bed area. One Bathroom/toilet and plenty of storage. Only two seats on the patio although maybe should be four (almost there). Rooms were kept very clean. Only one English channel, CNN although a foreign channel showed English films with Arabic subtitles.
Food was good for AI and reasonable variety. Local red was a bit too fruity for me but the beer was OK. The Italian restaurant was OK for the Italian food but the service is slow. 10 euro cover in there plus you pay for your drinks in there. They had a seafood night which is worth a MISS. 30 euro cover but the main meal was served with over cooked fish and lobster. The seafood pasta dish was served with clams that weren't open - and I was ill that night. Almost there!
Local entertainment team worked hard but entertainment in the Sahara tent was so bad sometimes that it was good. Mainly geared for Italians. The atmosphere in the tent was sterile, not helped by the tables and chairs. Almost there!
Beach towels supplied and plenty of pools. One was heated to over 32c. There was a wind for most of the days we were there although this generally dropped at night but be prepared with jumpers or light coats.
Diving was good and the school was well run. Had to hang around a couple of times after dives for the minibus to turn up and take us back. Euros seem to be the most favoured currency and for me doing 7 dives including 60 euro for Elphinstone boat, cost about £260. You get discount paying in cash.
We arranged a taxi at the airport for transfer £80 return. Transfer time 30 - 40 mins depending on speed of driver. As we were a party of 4 we had to have two cases on our lap.
The only late bar seemed to be the Safari bar which had a disco. You had to pay for your drinks in here. 15 euro bottle of wine 2.50 euro for pool table use.
House reef good, local sea swimming area good but watch the current when very windy.
Thomson flight home was not very good as the seats are cramped and the staff disappeared when the seatbelt sign came on for some slight turbulance. They used this as an excuse to stop the duty free run, the benefit was that they didn't give out their silly Thomson questionaire!!

“Excellent holiday !”

Just returned from a week at Akassia Resort , had a fantastic time , staff were so friendly and efficient, food of a very high standard with theme nights. So much room for a busy hotel, you can always find a quiet corner to relax, great layout of pools and beautiful gardens.
On the last day my wife was feeling unwell ( unrelated to the holiday )and the staff couldnt have done more for her, she had to see the resort doctor who was also excellent. .
Though this hotel caters for mainly Italians, Germans, Dutch and French, with few British guests , everyone speaks good English and the cosmopolitan mix just adds to the holiday experience.
We will certainly be returning !!

“Windy, poor snorkeling”

Akassia Swiss Resort

Mar 22, 2008
3/4 found this review helpful

We came on the promise of better snorkeling than our previous 2 holidays at Sharks Bay in Sharm, but we found as this hotel isn't situated in a bay that the wind and strong current made snorkeling very difficult and the house reef was no better than at Sharks bay. Access to the reef it difficult via 2 pier type jetties and there was steel steps down which many of the guests including my wife hurt themselfs getting out of the water as the continuous waves and current pushed her into the steel structure even on a white flag, so there was some nasty bruses amoungst many people.
The hotel is mostly good but there are some negitive points, there is a lot of building work there at the moment and will be for 4-5 months so say the staff. A lot of the block pavements are crumbling and extremely uneven and unlit which many other guests pointed out and had twisted ankles etc.
We were first situated in one room of an 10 room 2 story block which like many of their blocks, had only one airconditioning compressor, shared, for all rooms and it was only switched on at a few times of the day. Also, like many others, we were close to the night entertainment venue which was very loud and lots complained as it's in a very large tent which fails to contain the sound and is on until midnight. Being early birds we found it too loud and with the lack of A/C asked to move but despite the hotel being quite empty they would only move us the following day and that took some amount of arguing.
This time we had a room with it's own A/C compressor but still was, in my view, too close to the music but we put up with it.
The food's OK, service good and staff friendly although as there was only few Brits there we were a bit pestered by staff wanting to exchange their tip pound coins all the time. Also, as our Thomson fight pick up was at 1700 and check out was at 1200 we asked to keep the room on, which they did let us in the end keep it until 1430 without charge but it took a lot of arguing and we had to speak to the manager as they wanted to charge us 25 euros each (50) to keep it until 1630!!
In all, as we came for the snorkeling, which was very difficult, we wouldn't go again as there are better Egyption hotels situated in bays. However, if you get the right room arn't early to bed and stay by the nice pools, in all, you could a nice time to be honest.
Good Luck!
