“Splendid holiday”

Tulip Resort

Back since yesterday from a two weeks holiday in the Tulip Resort. Reading some of the latest reviews of people who were probably there at the same time as us, I can only be astonished. We ate the same food, which wasn't bad, and weren't ill, not even for a day. Of course it's different from what you eat at home, but there was always something we liked and the desserts were very nice. We had no problems with the staff, although myself and my two daughters (14 and 17) are blond. Of course they offer you camels and make remarks, but that's normal in these countries...Your behaviour influences theirs. The only two negative points were the singer, every evening the same songs and a terrible voice, plus the state of the pool. It was clean, but needs to be renovated. Only stay away if you can't stand italians, because they are 70 % of the guests.
In short, we had a lovely relaxing holiday.

My daughter and i stayed at the Tulip Resort from 18 June - 2 July 2008.

On arrival the Hotel looked fine and we could,nt fault the rooms, pool, beach etc.

We visit a lot of countries around the world and like to try all manner of foreign cuisine were definately not "egg & chip " people.
We arrived late evening and just in time for dinner. On entering the dining room we expected to find various food to try or at least be able to eat something!!!! How wrong we were!!!!!!

The Tulip is supposed to be 4 star so even though there might not be variety it should be edible.

I could list the menu that we were served for the 2 weeks of our stay but lets just say if you like Rice & Pasta everyday you,ll be fine!!!!
!

As people were getting ill around us we decided enough was enough and complained to the Dining room Manager. This was brought to a head when my daughter was served a kebab from the outside barbecue. Whatever animal it was must have just been butchered as it might as well have been mooing on the plate it was completely raw and cold!!!!!!!!!!!
The Manager was,nt helpful about the food and neither was the Thomas Cook rep. She, we noticed only ate a bowl of Pasta everytime she came to the Restuarant.

The ladies in the next room to us were also being careful but one of them ate a pouched egg a week into there stay and spent the rest of her holiday on the lavatory. I have had a call from her today and she has been diagnosed by her G.P as having Salmonella!!!!

We were also there the same time as Claire & Becky another reviewer and met these 2 girls and back up everything they have said . They were extremely ill and had there holiday ruined by the state of the food & poor hygiene in the Hotel.

We did have Diarrohea all the second week but luckily this has gone since returning to the U.K.

All in all we would suggest you leave your bikinis and sandals at home and fill your case with snacks!!!!!

The highlight of our stay was the 2 day trip to Luxor. It was absolutely fantastic and the people we met in our group were great.
Also the food in the Hotel we stayed in overnight was "out of this world" we did,nt want to go back to " Fawlty Towers "!!!!!!

We are writing to Thomas Cook, not just for ourselves but perhaps they will send a representative over there to sort out the situation for future quests. Our suggestion would be to leave Tulip hotel to the Italians !!!!!!!!!! and drop it from there brochures before someone is hospitalised or more serious !!!!!
Happy Holidays, good luck!!!!!

We have just had 2 weeks at the Tulip Resort... 18th June-2nd July.
The hotel is very isolated which explains the high prices in the hotel shops.
Taxi fares are extortionate, the transfer from the airport took 15 miunutes and we enquired for a return transfer for a taxi and they wanted £30. A return trip to the nearest town El Quesir cost £100.

The food was very bland and boring. We avoided salads and uncooked food, drank lots of water, not much alcohol. My husband has been fine but I was poorly for a couple of days and have started to be poorly again since our return.
We spoke to a few people who had had stomach upsets also.

The hotel is predominately Italian, some of whom were great, some were downright ignorant.
Entertainment is virtually none existant! unless of course you are italian!!!

Our rep 'Michelle' was brilliant, she went out of her way to get medication for me, and for other guests. She had only been out there 7 weeks and her knowledge of the area for such a short time was excellent.

The staff were very friendly and most of them said they felt sorry for the English as most of the facillities were for the Italians.

The area around the pool fills up very quickly, as does the beach. We spent most of our days across the road by a small pool surrounded by a few rooms. There was a pool bar here and they opened one of the rooms for us to use the facilities. Most days there was just the 2 of us.

I will not be going back to the Tulip in the near future, but, the area is being developed and I think when this happens prices in the hotel shops will drop and also the cost of taxi's.

My girlfriend and I have just returned from Tulip Resort after having spent a very relaxed and enjoyable week in the sun! Its hard to think how some of the previous reviews rate the hotel so badly as we found it to be a great hotel with great staff and no sign of anyone with bad stomachs! Admittedly the food isnt like going to one of Gordon Ramseys restaurants but there was always something you could eat, so i couldnt see what the fuss was about!

We have been to marsa alam previously, and it seems alot of people who go, complain there isnt anything to do once your there. My advice would be, is to choose the type of holiday you would like to go on and research it before you book so that you aren't disappointed (common sense?)

Some reviews have mentioned people being ill from the food. My girlfriend has a dietary condition and was perfectly fine throughout the holiday. Prior to our holiday we had our vaccinations (which some people at the tulip didnt realise you could have) and took the correct precautions to ensure that we were in good health for the time we spent in egypt.

The rep Michelle was very helpful, and booked us our trip to Abu Dabab. Highly recommend this trip to see the turtles (of which we saw 6) and the ellusive Dennis the Dugong (apparently he has a girlfriend named Lucy now too - so be on the look out) Mohammed was our guide and he was ace!

The staff are all friendly, go and visit Zidane and Mohammed in the beach shops, George the Papyrus man and Ahmed the quality barman!

My girlfriend and I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and would like to return in the near future!

Happy Holidays! :D

Stayed at the Tulip for 1 week at the start of June. As far as we were concerned the hotel was beautiful, very clean and the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The pool area was very relaxing and the fish off the end of the pier were stunning. Spent hours snorkelling and saw countless varieties of fish and even a couple of stingrays, worth the trip for this alone...

HOWEVER, I was extremely ill for 2 of the 6 days I was there and I am still suffering to a degree now having had repeat problems since I've been back home. I was informed today by the doctor that I had contracted salmonela (sp?) food poisoning and it had to be from the food at the hotel because it was only the hotel that we ate at. Perhaps I was unlucky but it is worth pointing out that I am a vegetarian and did not eat any meat. Loads of other people were ill aswell.

Basically if you are extremely careful with the food and you want a very relaxing holiday in the sun and you are not bothered about being entertained on an evening (we weren't) then I'm sure you will love the tulip...
