The Hotel was very clean and well maintained and there were plenty of helpful and friendly staff. It had 2 beautiful pools well maintained with shaded areas and sun loungers. Pool towels were freely available and could be exchanged for clean ones at any time. The beach had a large number of sun loungers with parasols and wind shields, although access to the sea was restricted due to the coral which came up as far as the shore.
The rooms were spacious and kept very clean. The restaurant offered a wide variety of food at every meal and drinks were available throughtout the day at the pool and beach bars. Alcoholic drinks were very poor quality and tasted disgusting , so buy your favourite tipple at duty free!
The down side was the location and the tummy upsets. A handful of hotels in the middle of the desert. Yes the aiport was close, tiny but adequate, for the very few flights landing there. There is no oppotunity for retail thereapy whatsoever. It costs £10 for an hours bus journey, to reach a town with shops and then you have to haggle. In the heat that we experienced you couldn't walk far. It was 46 degrees at 8:30am!
The biggest "gripe" was the stomach upsets. Very many people were ill with diahorea and vomitting including some of the Egyptian staff. There is a Dr on call 24 hrs a day and 2 surgerys a day and they need it! My son spent a whole day in bed and I almost didn't make the flight home. I was on a drip until 3 hours before we left for the airport , had 5 injections and 5 lots of medication to take orally to get me home. I had to have a wheel chair at the airport to ensure I didn't collapse in the queues. Then my son and daughter were ill for a week when we got home. I was ill and suffered dehydration for days after our return. DON'T think you will be ok with imodium it is the worst thing to take it just keeps the bug inside you and it returns with a vengence. The Thomsons rep said it was the heat, you don't get diahorea like that just with heat!
If you go be prepared take plenty to read as there is not much to do and take extra soft toilet rolls and rehydration sachets!
