This is the 4th time we have been to the hotel and although we were not dissapointed I feel there are a couple of points worth a mention; The good points are that the staff are the people who make the hotel worth re-visiting, you are always made welcome and are made to feel like part of a large family. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they even go out of their way to help if you are not feeling well or having an off day. We were there for our anniversary and were left a card from the management and the Thomson Rep, the Chef Mohammed made us a special meal and the bar staff were very attentive. Throughout the stay there is never a hint of anyone looking for tips. ARRIVAL. Marsa Alam has its own private airport which is new, well run and efficient on the whole. It is minutes from the resorts and a pleasure to go through compared with Gatwick and Sharm. At the hotel you are greeted with a drink in a cool reception and are free to eat, drink or go to the room where your luggage will be carried by the bell boys.
THE HOTEL. THE ROOMS are well appointed with ample space for clothes etc, good wet room bathrooms and comfortable beds. (the headboards have just been changed to a leather type) the rest of the room is wood and wicker which is good but some of the wicker needs to be changed or updated as it is starting to show its use. THE POOL areas are great with ample beds and space. There are 4 pools; one is a medium size shallow on the lower terrace and is the quiet area, the main pool is split by a walkway with one side for leisure and water sports and the other side for general use, in May it was a lovely temperature. The last pool is a small kiddies pool with overhead cover from the sun and a small slide. All pool areas have a fixed rectangular sunshade (6 beds each) My only comment about the pool area is that the beds are the aluminium type that are narrow, have no mattress and are quite uncomfortable after a while especially if you have a bit of weight about you. The other point is that I have noticed many of the tiles around the area are starting to rise and chip and although some repairs are being made it really needs a bit more of an overhaul. (It would not affect your holiday though, not a mess just tired) THE BEACH is just fine if you like beaches. There are ample spaces all with sun shades and the same beds as the pool area. The sand is a mix of coral sand or imported sand. There is a fixed JETTY that splits into 2 platforms with sun shades; one for divers and the other for observation or snorkelling with a stair and submerged platform to step off. You can go into the sea from this point or the beach and the sea is shallow from the beach for a long way out. The whole sea area is within a medium sized bay. The coral and sea life are of a moderate viewing, nothing spectacular but more than enough if it is your first time in the Red Sea. THE RESTAURANTS are fine with typical fayre found in Egypt. There is the main restaurant open for all meals (sometimes themed) and there is always something for everyone. the restaurant is inside but has a large outside covered area if that is your thing but smoking is allowed outside. The inside restaurant is fine but can get very warm as the aircon is either insufficient or not on. If you cannot find something to eat the chefs will happily make you something just for you. There is also the beach snack bar which doubles as a themed restaurant in the evening. As a snack bar it is great with all the normal fayre; hot dogs, burgers, pizza and chips etc. There is no dress code in the snack bar during the day as it is used by all the beach dwellers for drinks and toilets. One side of the snack bar is smoking which can drift and also it is not pleasant to be eating when some people walk in in swimwear and stand right in front of you or sit next to you (especially some in trunks) THE BARS. There is the main bar in the hotel which has a large seating area both in and out (outside is smoking) and the pool bar (not swim up) All the restaurants and bars serve beer, wine and soft drinks. THE AQUA PARK there is an aqua park that is for use by all the hotels and it is free. It is a fantastic facility with great slides and it is always under-used. 2 minutes from the hotel and is used more by adults than children. NOT SO GOOD POINTS. After several visits to this hotel we have found that there appears to be a bit of money saving going on. The waiter service by the bars has gone and the number of staff in the restaurants seems to have depleted by quite a number. In all the staff at the hotel is a lot less than it used to be, combined with the repair and general outlook appears to show that someone is trying to save money in the running of the hotel. We had a letter from thomson also stating that it has been reduced from 5 star to 4.
In their wisdom Thomson not only changed the hotel to 4 star, they also changed the aircraft and flight times, the checkout at the hotel is 12 noon but the pick up to the airport is at 1845hrs so there is lots of waiting around unless you pay extra to retain a room. The night flight arriving back at Gatwick at 0215 is not great if you have a long drive after.
THE REALLY GOOD BIT. The Thomson Rep Achmed is a top rep who is so dedicated he even comes in on his day off to check on his guests. He is polite, well informed and exceptionally helpful, a credit to his country and company. Staff of note are all at the pool bar, Hassan, Nasser, Ibrahim, Mohammed Ali and Waleed. Nothing is soo much trouble and they are a great fun bunch of guys as well. We cannot name them all but the staff are what make the place great, we would definately return again but hope that the owners and manager spend a bit of money on freshening the place up.

Room Tip: As a family hotel there can be a number of children there is less noise from footsteps and dragging...

It was our first time at Lamaya, but i would go back in tomorrow, if i could. A big plus is the transfer from the airport that is only 10 min. The staff is always smiling, friendly and trying to make every guest feel welcome, gardens and pools are very well maintained. Sometimes the food was over/under cooked but we always found something just right. In The Egyptian corner we found the best grilled chicken and vegetables we ever eat, we also had pigeons for the first time. The entertaining team it's AMAZING....they made our days unforgettable( A BIG THANK YOU TO CASPER, TYGA ,MUMU and all the rest). There are so many activities you can take part in: water polo, volley ball, yoga, aerobic, step, Arabic lesson. the evening shows are a must.
Last but not least a HUGE THANK YOU to AHMED the Thomson rep. He was always there ready to answer all our questions. On Saturday night he stayed in the disco with us to make sure we will be ready and not to drunk as we were leaving to Cairo at 2 am.He only left once we were all in the coach. That was such a sweet thing to do. We were a party of 8 (25-33 years)
Ahmed also sent cakes and cards to our rooms, one for the newly wed couple the other as a birthday present for one of the boys. Another plus for the resort is the beautiful BAY.....we were up by 6.30 most mornings as we were told that is the best time to snorkel and once again AHMED was absolutely right. It was also lovely to come back to a clean room with a different art towel figure every day.
I speak for the 8th of us when i say we would definitely go back.

Room Tip: we had 4 rooms all top floor. 2333, 2326 ,2325 all have a lovely bar and poll view and room 2328 ha...

I spent a two weeks holiday with family (incl 1 year old baby, I can confirm the resort is child-friendly). In this review I would like to focus on the negative notes.
At check in we refused two rooms (because of bad smell and unsuitable size) before being assigned a decent garden room overlooking the children swimming pool. Staff is generally friendly but in most of the cases they look bored and disinterested, especially the bar staff at swimming pool. Food is canteen like at best, drinks quality is in my opinion unacceptable, only exception maybe the local beer (how would you dare to drink spirits like London gin, Scottish whisky or caribbean rum produced an industrial estate outside Cairo (seriously)? serious risk of being intoxicated). Beach area not particularly nice (it is basically dirt, not sand) if for Red Sea standard.
Would I return? Possibly yes because cheap as few other holidays, good weather, excellent area for snorkelling&diving

Lamaya is a part of an ellegant complex of several hotels (Medinat Coraya). The place is really beautiful, the service very good and friendly. The guest relations personell takes care of your comfort, they call occasionally to ask if you are happy with your stay.
I can really recommend it.

This was our Eighth visit to Egypt, our Third to Marsa Alam, and our first (but not our last) to the Lamaya. I love the peace, and the 10 minute airport to hotel trip. The fact that there is not a lot to do except swim, snorkel, or lie in the sun is a positive for us.
The Lamaya is possibly the best "all round" Hotel that we have ever come across. The Hotel is well maintained (but not opulent), The Staff all set out to make every guest feel special, from Management to the hard working garden staff, all have a smile on their face and want to know if you are all right, or if there is anything they can do for you. The Lamaya offers a most varied and high quality food, catering as it does ,for so many nationalities, and the drinks are of a far higher standard than other "5 Star" Hotels we have stayed at in Egypt.
My wife and I came here for a much needed rest, and to celebrate a "special" birthday. The Hotel staff did all they could to help us achieve our goal. Whilst the Hotel is mainly for families, we, as a couple, at no time found this a problem.
The day and evening activities/entertainment are of a high standard, and the this must be the best "animation" team around. They come round to see if everyone is all right, tell you what is on, then leave you in peace to decide what (if anything), you want to do. Their evening shows are good, as is the nightly singer by the lobby bar. A small but adequate dance area is well used, and he brilliantly caters for all styles and ages, he is a real bonus!
I must mention the Thomson team of Lorraine (the Boss) and especially Ahmed the Hotel rep..Ahmed has a huge knowledge of al things Egyptian, and was always readily available (but in the background) should you have a problem, or just need advice or information. They are both a credit to Thomsons, and far and away the best we have come across in over 50 years of travelling.
I could make a list as long as both arms, of the staff we would like to thank, from Ahmed the ever vigilant Restaurant Manager, to Ibrahim, the pool bar waiter. All I can say is a thank you to all of them, and that if you are thinking of going to this Hotel, then do so. I feel jealous of you already.

Room Tip: The pool bar is open in the evening till 11pm. Great if you want to sit out and keep an eye on your...

Stayed late April. Fifth time in Egypt, first to Marsa Alam, looking to see the Dugong.
Hotel was all other good reviews have mentioned, food Very good for all inclusive, rooms clean, good size and hotel is in a lovely setting in its own bay.

Staff excellent, and could not do enough, had no issues in terms of always wanting tips. Only extremely minor thing was no separate shampoo in shower, just gel,but found out if you ask they will provide. Never used the pools, why would you when the snorkelling is so good?

Beach nice enough with plenty of sunbeds. Went for the snorkelling and Lamaya was an excellent choice, no milk crate jetty, with the reefs protected via roping off. Both sides of the bay were easily swimmable with the variety and numbers of fish our best experience to date. Morays and turtles also in evidence. Seen Dugong on the 4 hour boat trip, booked via Thomson rep....avoid the 6 hour VIP trip if you want to see the Dugong.

Great for a 7 day break but being isolated location then nice though it is, 14 days would have been too much. That said would definitely go back.
