“well done lamaya...........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

we have just returned from a week here and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, what a lovely place this is,the staff were brilliant and the check in very swiftly done with wine and strawberries dipped in choc yummy,it was very quiet with it been just before christmas pools were empty even the heated one,we spent most of the time on the beach or snorkelling which was brill even though it was windy down on the jetty and felt cold the sea life made it worth it,the food was really good and we never went hungry, the manager invited us to a asian night in one of the restaurants it was very tasty 5 courses and nothing was too much trouble for them ,we shall definitely come back here and we never say that about the places we stay, one of the best bits were the decorations they put up for christmas the tree and the giant gingerbread house they built with real biscuits and icing lovely, well done deserves the 5 star raiting..............

Room Tip: we had a pool view which was also near the restaurant and was happy with it, but the sea ones looked...

“Nice hotel for money but wont be going back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Lamaya. For what we paid it was a nice last minute break. We cannot fault the staff or the cleanliness of the hotel. Although a few little extras like a waiter service in the bar and restaurant would have been nice. The dining experience was another matter. The restaurant was more like a works canteen. As soon as we walked in to the restaurant we felt despondant. You start off with the lack of atmosphere then the lack of anything decent to eat. I lived on bread and butter for the whole week and sometimes even that was not very fresh. I am a fussy eater so was quite expecting not to have much but a few chips would have been bettter than nothing. My Husband who usually eats anything anywhere was even struggling with the choices available. We will be trying the coraya next time just wish we had this time.

“Great for the family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

Just returned from a week at the Lamaya with Thomson. Everything at the hotel was fine for what we paid. Very clean rooms, friendly staff, a bit noisy round the pool with music, but quiet on the beach. It was nice to be brought strawberries or ice cream on the beach. The entertainers work really hard to put on a show most nights and are always friendly - they often came and sat with us and chatted. The singer on the terrace needs quite a few more singing lessons! We enjoyed a relaxing week in the sunshine. Unfortunately the flight home was disgusting. Six hours cramped into a smaller plane with no legroom at all. It was a different aircraft from the flight out (which was fine) but I think the minimum legroom was used on the return flight. Very uncomfortable to say the least. Thomson need to sort out their legroom on flights. They spoiled what was for us a very enjoyable holiday.

“Lovely for familes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

Just returned from a one week stay at the Lamaya - a very nice large hotel on a complex of 3 other hotels, guests from the other hotels use the same beach and sunbeds, [can be a bit annoying when you have a fave area and other hotels guests use the sunbeds -you can tell different towels]
the rooms ars spotless ,and the food great -we came for the snorkeling off the jetty and werent disappointed, husband used coraya divers and said they were fab!
only awarded 4* as we found -as a couple the hotel was large and catered for families ,and th ere were just to many children at this hotel, great for families , but not for couples, we found that some parents were just letting there kids run wild especially in the restaurant [ i know this isnt the hotels fault more parents- but the staff need to be a bit firmer with the lazy parents]
the other nag i would have was the thompson flight home , the plane was small and most of us were squeezed in our seats like sardines -horrid flight back to gatwick,
would return some time in the future to marsa alam - dont think we would stay at the lamaya again ,as it was expensive for a week.

Room Tip: choose a room overlooking the jetty - quieter than the pool areas.

“Lovely Hotel, Shame about the meals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

We have just returned from a week at this hotel. We booked it about 8 weeks before leaving with Thomson for just £348 each fully inclusive, so bearing the price in mind , we can't complain! We certainly got all we paid for and more. However, I would not be happy to pay a high price for the hotel.
Our flights with Thomson were actually good, appeared to have more leg room than usual, also there were a lot of empty seats on the return flight so we could all spread out a lot more than usual and most had 3 seats between 2 people. I was glad that I had not paid for extra legroom as I usually do.
Very short transfer to the hotel only took about 15 minutes. We were greeted by management and taken to our rooms. Our room was on the ground floor by the pool, very large, clean and well maintained. We did however ask the next day if it was possible to move us somewhere a bit quietier as it was noisy because of the music. Reception could not have been more helpful and moved us to a fantastic room right at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea.
Pools were wonderful, one was colder than the other two but very refreshing if you fancied being brave. i think they were about 150cm deep all over, apart from a smaller shallow one right at the edge of the beach. I also saw a lovely childrens pool, covered so it was in shade and also lots of toys provided for them. Fantastic hotel for kids, the animation team were great with them.

My only problem and the only thing that would stop me returning was the food and the whole dining experience. Large, cavernous dining hall with a self service buffet. There is a lovely outside area that we sat in, problem then was the flies! The food looked unattractive and didn't taste much better. Dreadful, dreadful meat.I did have pasta one night that wasn't bad with a tomato sauce. Cold vegatables. Breakfast was a disaster. One morning the milk was off! The orange juice was watered down or the stuff that is mixed up. The serving stations got covered in food as the meals went on and I never saw anyone cleaning them. It was horrible. I lived on bread and cheese for the week, and I am not a fussy eater!!!!! Even my husband who eats anything, did not enjoy a single meal there. It's a shame as it's lovely to be able to sit and enjoy a meal together on holiday. I also did not like self service for drinks during meal times.
Only other negative was the entertainment. I know from all our visits to Egypt that it's never going to be brilliant, but this was dire.
We will go to the Coraya next time, wish we had this time. it was the same price but only Half board not fully inclusive. Guess lesson learnt, you get what you pay for. I have still given this 4 stars because apart from the food it was lovely.
